Happy early birthday to you,\u00a0Diana Ross<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

The iconic pop, R&B and soul singer celebrated her birthday onstage at the\u00a02019 Grammys<\/a><\/strong> on Sunday, more than a month before she will turn 75,\u00a0and gave the audience a performance of two of her hits, her 1970 debut solo single “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)” and the 1993 song “The Best Years of My Life.”<\/p>\n

Ross, who performed some of her set while walking through the audience, was introduced onstage by her 9-year-old grandson, Raif-Henok Emmanuel Kendrick<\/strong>, son of her daughter\u00a0Rhonda Ross Kendrick<\/strong>. Other family members, including Ross’ daughter\u00a0Tracee Ellis Ross<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and son\u00a0Evan Ross<\/a><\/strong>, were also in attendance and cheered him and the singer on.<\/p>\n

“Did she say little guy?” the little boy said about host\u00a0Alicia Keys<\/a><\/strong>, who had announced him.\u00a0“I’m almost 4 foot 9.”<\/p>\n

“She is amazing,” he told the audience about Ross. “Young people like me can look up to her for her independence, confidence and willingness to be her unique self. she has shown the world that nothing is beyond our reach. So, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my grand-mommy Diana Ross.”<\/p>\n

Raif-Henok had also\u00a0won audience members’ hearts\u00a0at the 2017 AMAs, when he danced onstage\u00a0during her performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“When I was a little girl, I\u00a0<\/span>felt the joy of singing,” Ross said onstage at the Grammys. “<\/span>It made me happy.\u00a0<\/span>It made my parents happy, and\u00a0<\/span>it led to this day, and it still\u00a0<\/span>brings me joy.\u00a0<\/span>Through my life, there has\u00a0<\/span>always been music, and its\u00a0<\/span>power.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

While Ross has never won a Grammy for an individual project, many of her songs remain among the most memorable in music history.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

In 2012, she received a\u00a0Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
