{"id":267931,"date":"2019-02-21T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-21T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kidn\/music-news\/how-jennifer-love-hewitt-left-hollywood-to-come-back-stronger-than-ever\/"},"modified":"2019-02-21T05:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T12:00:00","slug":"how-jennifer-love-hewitt-left-hollywood-to-come-back-stronger-than-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kidn\/music-news\/how-jennifer-love-hewitt-left-hollywood-to-come-back-stronger-than-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"How Jennifer Love Hewitt Left Hollywood to Come Back Stronger Than Ever"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"video-int-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"37.349042709867\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-video-text\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"18.674521354934\">\n<p>Don&#8217;t call it a comeback, she&#8217;s been here before.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/jennifer_love_hewitt\">Jennifer Love Hewitt<\/a><\/strong> made her latest return to this past September, with the second season premiere of <em>9-1-1<\/em> on Fox.<\/p>\n<p>Hewitt was brought in by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/ryan_murphy\">Ryan Murphy<\/a><\/strong> to replace the void (and hair goals position) left by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/connie_britton\">Connie Britton<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s exit after season one of the hit medical drama, with the mega-producer teasing the TV vet&#8217;s big return in a major way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will be bringing in some new faces, including one you all know and love but haven&#8217;t seen in a while, the incredible Jennifer Love Hewitt,&#8221; Murphy told advertisers back at the Fox Upfront presentation in May, promoting Hewitt&#8217;s first regular acting gig since <em>Criminal Minds<\/em> in 2015.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"60.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"11\">\n<p>And it seems the move to cast Hewitt paid off: <em>9-1-1<\/em>&#8216;s season two opener saw series-high ratings, bringing in 8\/47 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demo (aka advertiser catnip).<\/p>\n<p>While the massive return numbers for the show can&#8217;t entirely be\u00a0attributed to Hewitt&#8217;s return to TV, it&#8217;s just the latest piece of evidence proving Hewitt&#8217;s everlasting appeal to the public since 1995, when her turn as Sarah Reeves on Fox&#8217;s <em>Party of Five<\/em> made her a household name and started her journey as teen drama queen.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"41.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"23\">\n<p>Hewitt, who turned 40 on February 21, has made multiple &#8220;comebacks&#8221; throughout her career, with her various returns to TV making headlines and being heralded as the star coming back to the place she started\u2014the small screen.<\/p>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t it feel like every few years there\u00a0would be a batch of headlines touting the former scream queen&#8217;s return to television, only for JLH to quickly\u00a0disappear again?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the most intriguing thing about her ongoing run of comebacks\u00a0is that she&#8217;s never really left; she&#8217;s learned how to step gracefully <em>just<\/em> outside of the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the end of her <em>Party of Five<\/em> run in the late &#8217;90s, Hewitt&#8217;s movie career began to take off, thanks to hits such as <em>I Know What You Did Last Summer<\/em> and <em>Can&#8217;t Hardly Wait<\/em>. She was America&#8217;s new ing\u00e9nue, with teen girls wanting to be her and men wanting to date her (even <strong>LFO<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;Girl on TV&#8221; was about her). Come on, she was Amanda Beckett!<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"38.733939393939\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"32\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2018018\/rs_634x874-180118101330-634.Party-Of-Five-JR-011818.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Party of Five\" alt=\"Party of Five\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Moviestore\/REX\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"16.658720200753\">\n<p>Her rapidly rising popularity inspired Fox to take a chance on a <em>Party of Five<\/em> spinoff centering on her character in 1999. <em>Time of Your Life<\/em>, which documented Sarah&#8217;s move to New York City, lasted less than one season.<\/p>\n<p>But in the early aughts, aside from a few buzzy projects (<em>Heartbreakers<\/em> with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/sigourney_weaver\">Sigourney Weaver<\/a><\/strong> is a true underrated gem and the TV movie <em>The Audrey Hebpurn Story<\/em> gifted us with\u00a0those truly iconic birthday celebration paparazzi pics years later), Hewitt&#8217;s movie career was hitting a bit of a plateau. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hewitt&#8217;s first big return to TV following the failed spinoff was in CBS&#8217; <em>The Ghost Whisperer<\/em> in 2005 and this time she was serving as the star <em>and<\/em> as an executive producer. The procedural would go on to run for over 100 episodes and gave Hewitt her first directorial credits.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"16\">\n<p>In 2010, CBS made the decision to silence <em>The Ghost Whisperer<\/em>, though Hewitt was still busy making headlines after she popularized &#8220;vajazzling&#8221; in a chapter of her book, <em>The Day I Shot Cupid<\/em> (which went on to become a New York Times bestseller). (&#8220;BeDazzling for your hoo-ha,&#8221; is how she explained the practice to Maxim, in case you were wondering.)<\/p>\n<p>A made-for-TV movie <em>The Client List<\/em> was next up for Hewitt, who took on the role of a mom-turned-prostitute. The TV film ended up doing so well for Lifetime that they turned it into a series, with Hewitt once again starring and producing.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-6\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"32.131147540984\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"14.187779433681\">\n<p><em>The Client List<\/em> introduced more than just endless lingerie costume changes into Hewitt&#8217;s life: She met her now-husband on the show, her costar <strong>Brian Hallisay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, Hewitt and Hallisay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/426176\/jennifer-love-hewitt-pregnant-actress-expecting-a-baby-with-boyfriend-brian-hallisay\" target=\"_blank\">announced they were expecting their first child together<\/a>, and while the real-life pregnancy was initially going to be written into the show, behind-the-scenes drama lead to Lifetime <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/476766\/the-client-list-canceled-by-lifetime\" target=\"_blank\">cancelling the drama after two seasons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports at the time, Hewitt wanted Hallisay&#8217;s character to be named the father of her character&#8217;s child on the show, while the showrunner favored <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/colin_egglesfield\">Colin Egglesfield<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s character as the baby daddy. A storyline stalemate ensued before the cancellation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-7\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"59.185540069686\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"15.844947735192\">\n<p>The couple welcomed daughter <strong>Autumn James Hallisay\u00a0<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/470521\/jennifer-love-hewitt-gives-birth-to-baby-girl-and-secretly-marries-brian-hallisay\" target=\"_blank\">back in November 2013, and secretly wed<\/a> just a few weeks prior to her birth.<\/p>\n<p>By July 2014, Hewitt was ready for her next regular TV gig, joining the cast of CBS&#8217; <em>Criminal Minds<\/em> for its 10th\u00a0season. Because she&#8217;s due in July, when we would start shooting season 11, timing-wise there was no way for her to do both, to be able to give that baby everything she wanted to give that baby and still be on our show,&#8221; showrunner <strong>Erica Messer<\/strong> told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ew.com\/article\/2015\/05\/06\/jennifer-love-hewitt-exits-criminal-minds-season11\/\" target=\"_blank\">EW<\/a><\/em> at the time. &#8220;We wrote to that, and that&#8217;s how season 10 ends. It&#8217;s a bittersweet idea of, \u2018Life is full of choices and they define who you are.&#8217; She makes the decision to leave the team for a while. It&#8217;s really lovely and real, not only because it was happening off-screen, but because I know those things happen in real life too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-9\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"65.710437710438\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"25.124579124579\">\n<p>And after almost three years off after welcoming son <strong>Atticus<\/strong> in June 2015, Hewitt was ready to return to work, with <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/parents\/jennifer-love-hewitt-going-back-to-work-parenting-kids-911\/\" target=\"_blank\">the star telling reporters she<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;needed to be a person for a while&#8221; after spending&#8230;&#8221;almost 29 years&#8221; in Hollywood before her mini-break.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hewitt also said how important it was for her to &#8220;be there&#8221; for her children, explaining, &#8220;I needed to have new things to bring back to my craft.\u00a0I feel like I&#8217;ve done that now&#8230;They&#8217;re these full-functioning, beautiful people now, and it&#8217;s great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Plus, what better way to return to\u00a0the craft than by joining Ryan Murphy&#8217;s illustrious troupe of actors?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a little bit,&#8221; Hewitt admitted to E! News at Fox&#8217;s 2018 Upfronts of returning to TV. &#8220;I love the show, I love doing drama, I just think the cast is extraordinary and when Ryan Murphy calls, you pick up the phone and you do whatever he says because he&#8217;s Ryan Murphy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-11\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"59.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"9\">\n<p>And recently, JLH admitted in an Instagram post that she still gets &#8220;nervous&#8221; going into work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s crazy after almost 30 years of doing something to still get scared,&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;I think still wanting to do this job and knowing you guys still care, is special. So, I just have to apologize. Wearing a black suit? Not a good idea. Not wearing enough hairspray and teasing in my hair? Also a bad idea.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She continued, &#8220;I just have to apologize for how wrecked I look in all the pictures that have come out. I was literally melting. By the time I got to the red carpet, I was honestly melting.
