Congrats to\u00a0Regina King<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

The 48-year-old performer took home the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in\u00a0If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em>\u00a0at the\u00a02019 Oscars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After the\u00a0Ray<\/em>\u00a0actress took the stage to accept\u00a0her\u00a0Oscar<\/a>, she thanked her mother.<\/p>\n

“I’m an example of what it looks like when support and love is poured into someone,” she shared as her mother sat in the audience. “Mom, I love you so much.\u00a0Thank you for teaching me that\u00a0god is always leaning, always\u00a0has been leaning in my\u00a0direction.”<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Watchmen<\/em>\u00a0star<\/a>\u00a0also made sure to shout out to her fellow nominees.<\/p>\n

“My sisters in art. Marina, Amy, Emma, Rachel. It’s an honor to have my name to be said with yours. This whole step of the way, it’s been pretty amazing,” she explained.<\/p>\n

The Southland<\/em> actress beat out Amy Adams<\/a><\/strong> (Vice<\/em>), Marina de Tavira<\/strong> (Roma<\/em>), Emma Stone<\/a><\/strong> (The Favourite<\/em>) and Rachel Weisz<\/a><\/strong> (The Favourite<\/em>) to take home the Academy Award.<\/p>\n

It’s clear that the Los Angeles native made an impression on audiences in\u00a0If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

In the\u00a0Barry Jenkins<\/strong>\u00a0directed film, King takes on the role of Sharon Rivers, a mother who supports her daughter (Kiki Layne<\/strong>) as she fights for justice after her boyfriend is wrongly arrested for rape.<\/p>\n

This is King’s first Oscar nomination and win.<\/p>\n

If Beale Street Cold Talk<\/em>\u00a0is also up for Best Original Music Score and Best Adapted Screenplay tonight.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
