The moment movie lovers have been waiting for\u2014the winner for the Best Actress in a Leading Role category.<\/p>\n

While the lineup of nominees<\/a> were outstanding at the 2019 Oscars<\/a>,\u00a0Olivia Colman<\/strong> took home the coveted award for her\u00a0moving performance in The Favourite<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Naturally, the 45-year-old star was shocked when presenters, Frances McDormand<\/a><\/strong>and Sam Rockwell<\/a><\/strong>, announced she won the Best Actress award. She\u00a0made sure to soak up the special moment\u00a0when she took the stage, giving an emotional and relatable speech. Co-star Emma Stone<\/a><\/strong> stood up and applauded the star.<\/p>\n

“It’s genuinely quite stressful.\u00a0<\/span>This is hilarious.\u00a0<\/span>I got an Oscar.<\/span>,” The Favourite<\/em> actress said in her acceptance speech. “Okay.\u00a0<\/span>I have to thank lots of people.\u00a0<\/span>If I forget anybody, I’ll find\u00a0<\/span>you later and give you a massive\u00a0<\/span>snog, I’m sorry I might forget\u00a0<\/span>now<\/span>.”<\/p>\n

She thanked director\u00a0Yorgos Lanthimos<\/strong> as well as co-stars,\u00a0Stone\u00a0<\/span>and Rachel<\/strong> Weisz<\/strong>, who she said were “the two loveliest\u00a0<\/span>women in the world to fall in\u00a0<\/span>love with and to do to work with\u00a0<\/span>every day.” Adding, “<\/span>You can imagine, it wasn’t a\u00a0<\/span>hardship.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

This marks the\u00a0first time the actress has won an Oscar award for the Best Actress in a Leading Role category. The 45-year-old star won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Queen Anne.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Along with Colman, the\u00a0list of nominees in the Best Actress category\u00a0were\u00a0Yalitza Aparicio<\/strong>\u00a0(Roma<\/em>),\u00a0Lady Gaga<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(A Star Is Born<\/em>),\u00a0Melissa McCartney\u00a0<\/strong>(Can You Ever Forgive Me?<\/em>)\u00a0and\u00a0Glenn Close<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(The Wife<\/em>).<\/p>\n

She commended the women who were nominated alongside her, including Close.<\/p>\n

“Glenn Close<\/strong>, you’ve been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be,” Oliva said. “I think you’re amazing. I love you very much.”<\/p>\n

While the actresses in the category didn’t take home the award, they\u00a0most certainly broke barriers and pushed the envelope with their outstanding performances.<\/p>\n

Especially Aparicio, who earned an Oscar nomination for her feature film debut in\u00a0Roma<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She became the first indigenous Mexican woman to receive an Oscar nomination and second Mexican to be nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category.<\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a0Colman’s win, she dazzled as bright as her trophy wearing a resplendent deep green gown. Her effortlessly elegant design was truly a sight to see.<\/p>\n

Like most memorable Oscars moments, red carpet style\u00a0always\u00a0plays a supporting role. And the actress’ outfit was no different.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
