{"id":269300,"date":"2019-03-13T13:28:45","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T19:28:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b1023229"},"modified":"2019-03-13T13:28:45","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T19:28:45","slug":"lori-loughlin-felicity-huffman-and-their-families-most-controversial-comments-about-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kidn\/music-news\/lori-loughlin-felicity-huffman-and-their-families-most-controversial-comments-about-college\/","title":{"rendered":"Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman and Their Families&#8217; Most Controversial Comments About College"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019212\/rs_600x600-190312143315-600-5-lori-loughlin.jpg?fit=around|600:467&amp;crop=600:467;center,top&amp;output-quality=90\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"video-int-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"42.472340425532\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-video-text\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"28.314893617021\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/lori_loughlin\">Lori Loughlin<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;raved about sending her daughter to college, years before she, fellow actress&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/felicity_huffman\">Felicity Huffman<\/a><\/strong> and 44 other people were charged an alleged $25 million racketeering scheme&nbsp;to help wealthy American parents get their children into elite universities, including top 10 schools Yale and Stanford.<\/p>\n<p>The scam, the largest in U.S. history, had followed an investigation&nbsp;dubbed &#8220;Operation Varsity Blues.&#8221; It allegedly involved&nbsp;bribes given to coaches and&nbsp;stand-in test takers, as well as doctored photos misrepresenting applicants as elite athletes.&nbsp;The mastermind of the scheme, <strong>William &#8220;Rick&#8221; Singer<\/strong> of the&nbsp;Edge College &amp; Career Network, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to racketeering charges.<\/p>\n<p><em>Fuller House<\/em> star&nbsp;Loughlin and her husband, designer <strong>Mossimo Giannulli<\/strong>, are&nbsp;accused of paying&nbsp;Singer $500,000 to help their daughters,&nbsp;<strong>Isabella<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Olivia Jade Giannulli<\/strong>, cheat&nbsp;to gain admission into the University of Southern California, a top 25 college, by bribing rowing coaches at the&nbsp;college.&nbsp;He is also charged with fraud.&nbsp;Giannulli was arrested on Tuesday and was released on a $1 million bond. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/us\/news\/1022957\/lori-loughlin-surrenders-to-fbi-taken-into-custody-over-college-admission-scandal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FBI agents took Loughlin into custody<\/a> on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"70.069055944056\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"31.58041958042\">\n<p>Huffman, a&nbsp;<em>Desperate Housewives<\/em> alum, appeared at a Los Angeles court that day. Her husband and <em>Shameless<\/em> actor&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/william_h_macy\">William H. Macy<\/a><\/strong>, who&nbsp;has not been charged, sat in the front row of the courtroom. Huffman was released on a $250,000 bond.<\/p>\n<p>Singer allegedly arranged for Huffman and Macy&#8217;s older daughter&nbsp;<strong>Sofia<\/strong>, now 18,&nbsp;to take the SAT test at a test center, rather than at school, where a proctor was paid to administer the exam and secretly correct wrong answers. Sofia scored 1420 points\u2014an improvement over the 1020 score got on a PSAT a year prior.&nbsp;Sofia, who has also not been charged in the case, was also given extra time to complete the exam.&nbsp;A month later,&nbsp;Huffman and Macy&nbsp;allegedly made a $15,000 &#8220;purported charitable contribution&#8221; Singer&#8217;s &#8220;Key Worldwide Foundation,&#8221; a charity that the FBI claims was used to launder money.&nbsp;Huffman later allegedly made arrangements to pursue the scheme a second time, for&nbsp;their younger daughter, <strong>Grace<\/strong>, 16, before deciding not to do so, the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some controversial statements Loughlin, Huffman and their families have made about college and academics over the years:<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"67.203304597701\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"28.041666666667\">\n<p><strong>Lori Loughlin So Excited to Send Daughter to College:<\/strong> In 2017, the actress appeared on the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/parents\/see-lori-loughlin-talk-about-sending-her-daughter-college-2017-t150267?cid=sm_npd_td_tw_ma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Today<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;show with daughter Isabella. Macy&nbsp;Calls College Applications &#8220;Stressful&#8221;:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Macy told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/parade.com\/732550\/walterscott\/william-h-macy-on-his-favorite-frank-moment-from-shameless-and-working-with-wife-felicity-huffman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Parade<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;in comments published in January&nbsp;that Sofia was going to go to college, adding,&nbsp;&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1022920\/felicity-huffman-s-husband-william-h-macy-once-spoke-about-college-application-stress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I&#8217;m the outlier in this thing. We&#8217;re right now in the thick of college application time<\/a>, which is so stressful. I am voting that once she gets accepted, she maybe takes a year off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;God doesn&#8217;t let you be 18 twice,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I know from casting, if you need a 25-, 26-year-old actress, there are a lot of them out there and they&#8217;re really good. But if you need a 15-, 16-year-old actress, it&#8217;s tough. Sofia looks young. I think this is an opportunity for her.
