Prepare to say goodbye to Moira Rose\u2014Schitt’s Creek<\/em> is coming to an end.<\/p>\n

The comedy, created by father-son duo Dan Levy<\/strong> and Eugene Levy<\/strong>, is now in its fifth season on Pop in the United States and CBC in Canada. Dan took to Twitter to share the news that the show will be back for its sixth season, but it will be its last.<\/p>\n

“We are very excited to announce that Schitt’s Creek<\/em> is coming back for a sixth season on CBC and Pop in 2020! We also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that we have decided season six will be our last. We are so grateful to have been given the time and creative freedom to tell this story in its totality, concluding with a final chapter that we had envisioned from the very beginning. It’s not lost on us what a rare privilege it is in this industry to get to decide when your show should take its final bow. We could never have dreamed that our fans would grow to love and care about these characters in the ways that you have,” the Levys wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“We are all so excited to begin shooting these last 14 episodes and can’t thank you enough for the overwhelming love and generosity you’ve shown us. We hope you continue to enjoy the rest of our fifth seas as we prepare to shoot our sixth!” the note ended.<\/p>\n

The Levys star in the series alongside Catherine O’Hara<\/strong>, Annie Murphy<\/strong>, Chris Elliott<\/strong>, Emily Hampshire<\/strong>, Jennifer Robertson<\/strong>, Noah Reid<\/strong>, Dustin Milligan<\/strong>, Sarah Levy<\/strong>, and Karen Robinson<\/strong>. The series follows the Roses, a rich family who lost everything thanks to their business manager. The only thing they had left? The deed to a small town named Schitt’s Creek where they were forced to relocate to and assimilate to the small town culture.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“Schitt’s Creek<\/em> is that rare zeitgeist show that creates incredible fandom, catalyzes culture, and receives best-of-television critical praise for its intelligence, character development, laughter and heart,” Brad Schwartz<\/strong>, President of Pop, said in a statement. “Schitt’s Creek<\/em> has given all of us a joyous gift that, in my opinion, places the show among the very best. Schitt’s Creek<\/em> premiered in 2015 and over time has developed a cult following thanks to its availability to stream on Netflix. The series has been heralded for its performances, specifically from O’Hara as a former soap star and the matriarch of the family, Moira Rose, as well as its inclusivity. Co-creator Dan Levy who plays David Rose, a pansexual character, and said he made it a choice not have homophobia in the show.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

I made that decision because I wanted to show the transformational effects of love – how loving openly and wholly, without fear of judgement, can let light into even the most protected of hearts. Series creator Jenji Kohan<\/strong> hasn’t explicitly said why she wanted to end the show after seven seasons, the story does seem to be heading to a natural end. Piper (Taylor Schilling<\/strong>) was originally only sentenced to roughly a year in prison and season six ended with her finally getting released. “After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with,” Kohan said in a statement. “My heart is orange but fade to black.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Why:<\/strong> Isn’t 12 seasons enough? No? CBS boss Kelly Kahl<\/strong> said the network was in talks<\/a> with producer Warner Bros. TV about Big Bang<\/em> season 13, but that all changed. Why? Series star Jim Parsons<\/strong> was ready to move on<\/a> and the show wouldn’t continue without him. “It’s both as complex and as simple as just feeling innately that it was time. It speaks to a lot of things, none of them bad. There is no negative reason to stop doing Big Bang<\/em>. It felt like we have been able to do this for so many years now, it doesn’t feel like there is anything left on the table,” Parsons told EW<\/a>. “Not that we couldn’t keep doing it, but it feels like we’ve chewed all the meat off this bone. I guess at a personal level, it feels like the right time in my life.”<\/p>\n

However, Parsons is still an executive producer and narrator of Young Sheldon<\/em>, so he’s not going very far.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
