As fans may recall, the star was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1022089\/jussie-smollett-indicted-on-16-felony-counts-by-grand-jury-in-alleged-falsified-attack-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">indicted on 16 felony counts<\/a> of disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1023524\/jussie-smollett-pleads-not-guilty-to-disorderly-conduct-charges-in-alleged-falsified-attack-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">charges he pleaded not guilty<\/a> to earlier this month. They were dropped in return for the star&#8217;s agreement to forfeit his $10,000 bond to the City of Chicago and complete community service, the&nbsp;Cook County State&#8217;s Attorney&#8217;s office confirmed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the last two years, the Cook County State&#8217;s Attorney&#8217;s Office has referred more than 5,700 cases for alternative prosecution. This is not a new or unusual practice. An alternative disposition does not mean that there were any problems or infirmities with the case or the evidence. We stand behind the Chicago Police Department&#8217;s investigation and our decision to approve charges in this case. We did not exonerate Mr. Smollett,&#8221; the office said in an additional statement. &#8220;The charges were dropped in return for Mr. Smollett&#8217;s agreement to do community service and forfeit his $10,000 bond to the City of Chicago. Without the completion of these terms, the charges would not have been dropped. This outcome was met under the same criteria that would occur for and is available to any defendant with similar circumstances.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"60.637623762376\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"11.928712871287\">\n<p>&#8220;Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him,&#8221;&nbsp;Smollett&#8217;s attorneys, <strong>Tina Glandian<\/strong> and <strong>Patricia Brown Holmes<\/strong>&nbsp;said in a statement Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>However, the decision has only raised more eyebrows and questions after&nbsp;First Assistant Cook County State&#8217;s Attorney Joseph Magats said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cbschicago\/status\/1110634951484035074\/video\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS<\/a> that the dropped charges do not exonerate Smollett nor does he believe the actor is innocent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"17\">\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not on the level,&#8221; Chicago Mayor&nbsp;<strong>Rahm Emanuel&nbsp;<\/strong>said on <em>Good Morning America<\/em> Wednesday&nbsp;of the decision to drop the charges . &#8220;This looks like because he&#8217;s an actor, a person of influence, he got treated differenty than anybody else&#8230;<span id=\"transcript5687010000\" class=\"transcriptBlock\" data-ticks=\"5687010000\">nobody can&nbsp;<\/span><span id=\"transcript5706700000\" class=\"transcriptBlock\" data-ticks=\"5706700000\">make sense of this.&nbsp;<\/span><span id=\"transcript5718710000\" class=\"transcriptBlock\" data-ticks=\"5718710000\">This is a head-scratcher.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would love to have everything that the Chicago Police Department collected and gathered to actually come to the conclusion [to charge Smollett]\u2014make all of that available. I would love for that to happen,&#8221; the mayor said. &#8220;The second question is what happened here that allowed the State&#8217;s Attorney&#8217;s Office that was in the room with the police department when they decided to actually bring the charges to the grand jury, that actually brought the indictments\u2014what made them all of the sudden say you know what, on second thought, this is enough?&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-5-img\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"31\">\n<div class=\"post-content__image\" readability=\"32\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019226\/rs_1024x759-190326094321-1024-Jussie-Smollett-J1R-32619.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" border=\"0\" title=\"Jussie Smollett\" alt=\"Jussie Smollett\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"759\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Amanda Seitz\/AP\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"44.200084245998\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"28.804549283909\">\n<p>However, as Glandian told&nbsp;<em>Good Morning America<\/em>&#8216;s&nbsp;<strong>George<\/strong> <strong>Stephanopoulos&nbsp;<\/strong>on Wednesday, &#8220;there is absolutely nothing to warrant&#8221; Emanuel&#8217;s &#8220;not on the level&#8221; statement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer reminded the co-anchor that Smollett had been charged with 16 counts after beginning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1016805\/jussie-smollett-officially-becomes-a-suspect-in-attack-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">with one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I understand why everyone&nbsp;is so confused by the turn of&nbsp;events in the case, but keep in&nbsp;mind the actions in this case&nbsp;speak a lot louder than words&nbsp;do.&nbsp;It&#8217;s the prosecution&#8217;s, the state&nbsp;of Illinois that decided to come&nbsp;forward and charge Mr. Smollett&nbsp;with 16 counts, 16 separate&nbsp;counts from the same incident.&nbsp;They clearly could have&nbsp;proceeded with one count as they&nbsp;originally did in the felony&nbsp;complaint and then they decided to&nbsp;elevate this matter, to slice and&nbsp;dice this in every way possible and&nbsp;to charge him with 16 counts,&#8221; she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Two and a half weeks later, they made the decision to voluntarily discontinue the action altogether,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I think if they believed the charges, they would never have dismissed the case.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Glandian continued, &#8220;We were ready to fight the charges and they&#8217;re the ones who voluntarily discontinued this matter, so I think that speaks volumes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"socialcontent-twitter-6\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-type=\"async\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"39.630331753555\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"4.2085308056872\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">\u201cEmpire\u201d star Jussie Smollett\u2019s attorney speaks out about the investigation after prosecutors drop charges. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BHjpbroTWb\">https:\/\/t.co\/BHjpbroTWb<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/p0WbU82mSg\">pic.twitter.com\/p0WbU82mSg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Good Morning America (@GMA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GMA\/status\/1110867711121186816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 27, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-7\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"65\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"20\">\n<p>Considering Smollett maintains his innocence and&nbsp;Chicago Police Superintendent <strong>Eddie Johnson<\/strong> reiterated the allegation that the star had committed a hoax, Stephanopoulos asked if there are plans to sue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re weighing our options now. For Jussie, what&#8217;s really important is he really just wants his career and his life back&#8230;he did not ask for any of this. He was a victim of a crime. This has completely spiraled out of control and become a political event at this point,&#8221; she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His goal and focus right now is just getting his life back on track.
