All good things must come to an end, and that includes Supernatural<\/em>, which will be saying goodbye<\/a> after season 15 next year. <\/p>\n

CW President Mark Pedowitz<\/strong> has long said that the show would go on as long as stars Jared Padalecki<\/a><\/strong> and Jensen Ackles<\/a><\/strong> wanted the show to go on, so the boys had some explaining to do at VegasCon 2019, their first big appearance since it was announced that the show would be ending. <\/p>\n

After a fan jokingly asked about a theory that the show had continued thanks to a deal with a crossroads demon (a demon that makes deals with humans in exchange for ownership of their souls), Padalecki and Ackles opened up about the decision to end the show. <\/p>\n

“This was a community decision,” Padalecki promised. “The network and studio did not say like, hey guys, get outta here.” <\/p>\n

“It wasn’t an easy decision,” Ackles said (after Padalecki made an awkward joke about putting a dog down). “It was months and months if not years of discussion between he and I, between the rest of the cast, between crew, between our writers, between our producers, between the studio, between the network. Nobody wanted to see this show fizzle out.” <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“It was everyone wanting to do the biggest service to this show that we could by going out strong,” he explained. “It just seemed like the writing was kind of on the wall as to when that was happening. I think everybody kind of felt that it was coming soon, and so it was just taking that leap of faith and going like, well guys, let’s get out the paint and paint that finish line, and hold our heads high, because what we’ve accomplished is unlike any other.” <\/p>\n

Ackles then made a pretty dang appropriate if morbid analogy. <\/p>\n

“If we’re driving the Impala and we’re headed down the road, it’s like left, you’re gonna hit a rap and go off a cliff, and it’s going to be epic, and right, you’re just going to run out of gas about 30 miles down the road in the middle of the desert with nothing around you, I’m like, I’m going left. I want to go out with like, pyrotechnics.”<\/p>\n

“Those both suck,” Padalecki pointed out. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“All signs were pointing to next year,” Ackles said, and then reminded the audience, “We’re not done. We have a whole ‘nother year, so I didn’t get sad at the end of my junior of high school going, I’m so sad it’s over. No, I’ve still got an entire senior year to go!” <\/p>\n

But they respect this series and the cast and the crew and the fans enough to end this properly.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Everyone on the creative team, including the amazing people at USA and UCP, didn’t want to say goodbye, but we ultimately have too much respect for Elliot’s journey to extend past its inevitable ending. Anna Paqu<\/strong>in joins the cast for the final season that jumps around in time. “We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of The Affair’s subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity,” Gary Levine<\/strong>, president of programming at Showtime, said in a statement. “Sarah Treem<\/strong> has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, co-creator Robert Carlock<\/strong> said the team originally envisioned a five-season run and saw the split season four as shortened fourth and fifth seasons. “We were never quite sure what the life of the show wanted to be,” he said. “When we split up this fourth season into kind of a fourth and a fifth \u2014 just in the boring, most practical way, you could think of them as two short seasons \u2014 one wouldn’t be coming out until 2019, so it just felt like the right time to pull up stakes since we were kind of pushing ourselves into next year.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Orange Is the New Black<\/em><\/h3>\n

Why:<\/strong> Netflix renewed Orange Is the New Black<\/em> for seasons five, six and seven back in 2016. Many assumed the seventh season would be the last, but the streaming platform didn’t confirm<\/a> until October 2018. Series creator Jenji Kohan<\/strong> hasn’t explicitly said why she wanted to end the show after seven seasons, the story does seem to be heading to a natural end. Piper (Taylor Schilling<\/strong>) was originally only sentenced to roughly a year in prison and season six ended with her finally getting released. “After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with,” Kohan said in a statement. “My heart is orange but fade to black.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Why:<\/strong> Isn’t 12 seasons enough? No? CBS boss Kelly Kahl<\/strong> said the network was in talks<\/a> with producer Warner Bros. TV about Big Bang<\/em> season 13, but that all changed. Why? Series star Jim Parsons<\/strong> was ready to move on<\/a> and the show wouldn’t continue without him. “It’s both as complex and as simple as just feeling innately that it was time. It speaks to a lot of things, none of them bad. There is no negative reason to stop doing Big Bang<\/em>. It felt like we have been able to do this for so many years now, it doesn’t feel like there is anything left on the table,” Parsons told EW<\/a>. “Not that we couldn’t keep doing it, but it feels like we’ve chewed all the meat off this bone. I guess at a personal level, it feels like the right time in my life.”<\/p>\n

However, Parsons is still an executive producer and narrator of Young Sheldon<\/em>, so he’s not going very far.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
