With his leading role in the upcoming film Joker<\/em>, Joaquin Phoenix<\/a><\/strong> is the fifth actor to portray DC Comics’ clown prince of crime, aka Batman’s nemesis, in person on the big screen.<\/p>\n

Todd Phillips<\/a><\/strong>‘ new movie explores the Joker’s origin story. A trailer for Joker<\/em><\/a> was released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The remaining four actors to play the Joker on the big screen are the late Cesar Romero<\/strong>, who played him in a 1966 movie based on a hit live-action series, Jack Nicholson<\/a><\/strong>, who starred in Tim Burton<\/a><\/strong>‘s 1989 film Batman<\/em>, the late Heath Ledger<\/a><\/strong>, who won a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of the character in Christopher Nolan<\/a><\/strong>‘s The Dark Knight<\/em>, and Jared Leto<\/a><\/strong>, who played the role in David Ayer<\/strong>‘s 2016 film Suicide Squad.<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition, Zach Galifianakis<\/a><\/strong> provided the voice of the Joker in the Lego Batman Movie<\/em>, while several other actors, such as Star Wars<\/em>‘ Mark Hamill<\/a><\/strong>, have portrayed the Joker on various Batman animated shows, as well as in video games.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
