In&nbsp;an essay entitled &#8220;A Battle for My Life,&#8221; published on&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/personal-history\/emilia-clarke-a-battle-for-my-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New Yorker<\/a><\/em>&#8216;s website, Clarke detailed her near-death experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke&#8217;s first hospitalization came in 2011, after filming season one of the hit HBO series, the then-24-year-old actress was at the gym when she started feeling &#8220;as though an elastic band were squeezing my brain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She went on to share, &#8220;The diagnosis was quick and ominous: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening type of stroke, caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain. I&#8217;d had an aneurysm, an arterial rupture.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"60\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>Clarke was then&nbsp;transported to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London where should would undergo brain surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Then, after&nbsp;finishing season three of&nbsp;<em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, Clarke appeared as Holly Golightly on Broadway. While in New York City, Clarke had a brain scan which showed &#8220;the growth on the other side of my brain had doubled in size&#8221; and needed to have surgery.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"html-external-3\" data-type=\"async\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"38.101331360947\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-html-text\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"16.823964497041\">\n<p>However, when she woke up from surgery she was &#8220;screaming in pain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The procedure had failed,&#8221; Clarke explained.&nbsp;&#8220;I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it plain that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn&#8217;t operate again. This time they needed to access my brain in the old-fashioned way\u2014through my skull. And the operation had to happen immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After the surgery, Clarke spent a month in the hospital recovering. She explained in her essay that she wanted to help others experiencing similar health journeys, which is why she&nbsp;developed the charity&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sameyou.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SameYou<\/a>, which helps to provide treatment for people recovering from brain injuries&nbsp;and stroke.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63.703971119134\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"24.357400722022\">\n<p>Over the weekend, Clarke appeared on CBS News&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/emilia-clarke-on-games-of-thrones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunday Morning<\/a>, during which she shared photos from her time in the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I definitely went through a period of being of being down, to put it mildly,&#8221; she explained.<\/p>\n<p>But, as she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/videos\/287248\/emilia-clarke-khaleesi-mother-of-dragons-saved-my-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recently told E!
