Not because he didn&#8217;t like it; he just didn&#8217;t think he had the chops to pull it off when he first heard the idea from producer <strong>Adam Shankman<\/strong> while they were working on <em>Hairspray<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought he was crazy,&#8221; Efron told Tribute Movies. &#8220;I was like, \u2018What on earth makes you think I am up for the challenge of playing a 37-year-old? Instead, Perry acted out many of the scenes Efron was in during rehearsals, so the younger actor could get an idea of how he would play it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s got incredible timing. And I thought to myself: fly to Vancouver and meet the director for this Robin Williams movie, or stay and finish the auditions for the Disney Chanel movie? So I didn&#8217;t even go to the last audition. Sort of.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lennon briefly made an appearance on <em>Friends<\/em> in 1994, playing a blackjack dealer in &#8220;The One in Vegas&#8221; Part One.&#8221; Alas, they did not share a scene, as Lennon&#8217;s character was Joey&#8217;s (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/matt_leblanc\">Matt LeBlanc<\/a><\/strong>) &#8220;hand twin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But in 2015, they starred in CBS&#8217; remake of <em>The Odd Couple<\/em>, with Perry taking on Oscar and Lennon playing Felix. I may have told you to get out of my truck and a couple other expletives,'&#8221; he recalled telling Efron during an appearance on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Q7mjeFouTsI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Bonnie Hunt Show<\/a><\/em> after he was cast in the movie over a year later, &#8220;and he immediately remembered and said, &#8216;That was you! While filming the movie, Efron ended up being rushed to the hospital to have his appendix removed.
