True Hollywood Story<\/em>, the famed rap group&#8217;s frequent use of the word bitch is examined by hip hop legend <strong>MC Lyte<\/strong>. Per a <em>THS<\/em> voiceover, N.W.A offered up a &#8220;stark rebuttal&#8221; to <strong>Salt-N-Pepa<\/strong>&#8216;s message of female empowerment, allegedly causing a shift in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With N.W.A&#8217;s walk into hip hop, calling women bitches in that way, it changed the game,&#8221; MC Lyte, born <strong>Lana Michele Moorer<\/strong>, reflects. &#8220;They broke the word out. So then, you know, it just didn&#8217;t stop.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite their frequent use of the word in their music, the group\u2014which included <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/ice_cube\">Ice Cube<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/dr_dre\">Dr. Dre<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>Arabian Prince<\/strong>, <strong>Eazy-E<\/strong>, <strong>DJ Yella<\/strong> and <strong>MC Ren<\/strong>\u2014never took ownership of the derogatory term.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We didn&#8217;t make the word,&#8221; MC Ren defends in a vintage interview. &#8220;We just usin&#8217; it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"62.00328407225\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"17.43842364532\">\n<p>Nonetheless, by 1991, N.W.A&#8217;s influence grew thanks to the millions of albums they sold. Their hits included &#8220;A Bitch Iz a Bitch&#8221; and &#8220;Just Don&#8217;t Bite It.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The change that called for women to be used much more as objects was jolting,&#8221; MC Lyte recalls. &#8220;It was like, &#8216;Oh wow! Is this where we are now?'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This seemingly influenced today&#8217;s hip hop industry.
