I want to do that song, honey.&#8221; Who wouldn&#8217;t?<\/p>\n<p>As fate would have it, though, Houston sang it&nbsp;for the 1992 film <em>before<\/em> LaBelle could officially accept&nbsp;the&nbsp;offer. &#8220;Before I could say real yes, it was in the movie and Whitney killed it,&#8221; she admitted. &#8220;So, I have not done it since Whitney, but I plan to put it in my show one day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, of course, the epic ballad is one of the most recognizable songs of all time. And, in 1994, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/947456\/sexual-abuse-claims-a-secret-romance-and-her-private-heartache-inside-the-life-death-and-continuing-legacy-of-whitney-houston\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the late&nbsp;superstar<\/a>&nbsp;nabbed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/photos\/14988\/stars-first-grammys\/891251\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three Grammy awards<\/a>&nbsp;because of&nbsp;it, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"58.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"7\">\n<p>But LaBelle isn&#8217;t bitter. As she explained, &#8220;I was so happy that Whitney got that song and it just went like it did.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s how show business is,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;You never know what you&#8217;re gonna put down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"58\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"6\">\n<p>Of course, the &#8220;Lady Marmalade&#8221; singer is not at a loss for iconic bops.
