During the phone conversation, Savannah explained that her 2-year-old boy accidentally threw a toy train right at her eye.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And it tore my retina,&#8221; Savannah revealed. &#8220;It happened last week actually and then I lost my vision in my right eye about 24 hours later. And then it turned out to be kind of serious, they were afraid my retina was detached.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, they told me to just take it easy and they&#8217;ve been doing a bunch of laser procedures trying to avoid&nbsp;having to do the full surgery,&#8221; Savannah shared, adding that the toy train has a &#8220;real pointy edge&#8221; and that her young son Charlie &#8220;threw it right at me!&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"61\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"12\">\n<p>Savannah went on to note that she came to work on Monday but she couldn&#8217;t see out of her right eye, which is why she was wearing glasses during the show.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was so blurry from, not to get to gross, but there was so much blood inside the eye it completely blocked my vision,&#8221; she explained to her co-hosts. &#8220;It&#8217;s like putting vaseline on a lens, I just couldn&#8217;t see anything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"socialcontent-twitter-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-type=\"async\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"44.623853211009\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"5.480122324159\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Get well soon! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SavannahGuthrie?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SavannahGuthrie<\/a> is on the phone to give more insight on the eye injury she sustained after her son threw a toy truck that tore the retina in one of her eyes. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrNatalieTV?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DrNatalieTV<\/a> is also here to help explain the healing process and what she can expect. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7Tvj58rtY7\">pic.twitter.com\/7Tvj58rtY7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TODAY (@TODAYshow) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TODAYshow\/status\/1199680595007287296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 27, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"60\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>Savannah also said that doctors &#8220;couldn&#8217;t tell&#8221; what the nature of the injury was at first, but over time they&#8217;ve been able to look at and assess.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And they&#8217;re essentially trying to weld back this tear in the retina very carefully, and really trying so hard to avoid the retina detaching and avoid having to do a major surgery,&#8221; Savannah explained.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"video-int-txt-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"38\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-video-text\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"16\">\n<p>&#8220;Actually on Monday, they kind of rushed me&nbsp;into this emergency procedure that I wasn&#8217;t expecting,&#8221; Savannah continued. &#8220;At first, they didn&#8217;t think it had worked and it looked like I was gonna have to have this surgery, but now it&#8217;s looking more hopeful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Savannah said she&#8217;s still hoping to be able to co-host Thursday&#8217;s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
