{"id":284753,"date":"2019-12-09T07:55:26","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T14:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b1100749"},"modified":"2019-12-09T07:55:26","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T14:55:26","slug":"the-golden-globes-majorly-snubs-female-directors-for-the-5th-consecutive-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kidn\/music-news\/the-golden-globes-majorly-snubs-female-directors-for-the-5th-consecutive-year\/","title":{"rendered":"The Golden Globes Majorly Snubs Female Directors For the 5th Consecutive Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019119\/rs_600x600-191209060400-600-Greta-Gerwig-Lulu-Wang-Marielle-Heller-Lorene-Scafaria.jpg?fit=around|600:467&amp;crop=600:467;center,top&amp;output-quality=90\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"video-int-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"41.571428571429\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-video-text\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"31.714285714286\">\n<p>As&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/natalie_portman\">Natalie Portman<\/a><\/strong>once said, here are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/904589\/natalie-portman-called-out-golden-globes-for-snubbing-female-directors-and-celebrities-loved-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">all male nominees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1099576\/2020-golden-globe-nominations-the-complete-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2020 Golden Globe nominations<\/a> were announced on Monday morning, and for the fifth consecutive year, no women have been nominated for Best Director.<\/p>\n<p>The nominees for Best Director are&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/martin_scorsese\">Martin Scorsese<\/a><\/strong> for&nbsp;<em>The Irishman<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/todd_phillips\">Todd Phillips<\/a><\/strong> for&nbsp;<em>Joker<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/sam_mendes\">Sam Mendes<\/a><\/strong> for&nbsp;<em>1917<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong>Bong Joon-ho&nbsp;<\/strong>for&nbsp;<em>Parasite<\/em> and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/quentin_tarantino\">Quentin Tarantino<\/a><\/strong> for&nbsp;<em>Once Upon A Time&#8230;in Hollywood<\/em>. All of those films were also nominated in the various Best Picture categories.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their absence from the Best Director list, there were a wide range of noteworthy films <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1097380\/why-saoirse-ronan-slapped-her-little-women-co-star-in-the-face-a-lot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">directed by women<\/a> this year, and many of them did receive nominations.<\/p>\n<p><em>Little Women<\/em>, directed by <strong>Greta Gerwig<\/strong>, and <em>Harriet<\/em>, directed by <strong>Kasi Lemmons<\/strong>, both snagged Best Actress, Drama, nominations for <strong>Saiorse Ronan<\/strong> and <strong>Cynthia Erivo<\/strong>, respectively. <em>The Farewell<\/em>, directed by <strong>Lulu Wang<\/strong>, is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and its star, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/awkwafina\">Awkwafina<\/a><\/strong>, is nominated for Best Actress, Comedy\/Musical.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"51.283849918434\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"13.024469820555\">\n<p>The <strong>Fred Rogers<\/strong> biopic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1096203\/tom-hanks-had-night-sweats-after-taking-on-terrifying-mister-rogers-role\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>It&#8217;s A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood<\/em><\/a>, directed by <strong>Marielle Heller<\/strong>, snagged a nomination for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/tom_hanks\">Tom Hanks<\/a><\/strong>. And <em>Hustlers<\/em>\u2014one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1073043\/the-true-story-behind-hustlers-might-even-be-wilder-than-the-movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biggest box office hits<\/a> of the year\u2014directed by <strong>Lorene Scafaria<\/strong> landed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/jennifer_lopez\">Jennifer Lopez<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;a Best Supporting Actress nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, it was a year dominated with stories about women told by women. And yet, the last time a woman was nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globes was in 2015, when&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/ava_duvernay\">Ava DuVernay<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;was nominated for <em>Selma<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/barbra_streisand\">Barbra Streisand<\/a><\/strong> remains the only woman to ever win Best Director at the Golden Globes. She won for&nbsp;<em>Yentl<\/em> in 1984.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"37.41163141994\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"17.995468277946\">\n<p>At the 2018 Golden Globes (the same year Portman shaded the Hollywood Foreign Press with her &#8220;all male nominees&#8221; line), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/904799\/barbra-streisand-fiercely-rallies-for-female-best-director-nominees-at-the-2018-golden-globes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Streisand criticized the award show<\/a> for not honoring female directors more often.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of her historic win, she said, &#8220;That was 1984. That was 34 years ago. Folks, time&#8217;s up! We need more women directors and more women to be nominated for Best Director.
