{"id":284788,"date":"2019-12-09T14:11:53","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T21:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b1100956"},"modified":"2019-12-09T14:11:53","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T21:11:53","slug":"can-we-just-sit-and-appreciate-dame-judi-dench-for-a-minute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kidn\/music-news\/can-we-just-sit-and-appreciate-dame-judi-dench-for-a-minute\/","title":{"rendered":"Can We Just Sit and Appreciate Dame Judi Dench for a Minute"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"photo-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"38.998730964467\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019119\/rs_634x1024-191209114950-634-dame-judi-dench.cm.129192.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Dame Judi Dench\" alt=\"Dame Judi Dench\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Mike Marsland\/WireImage<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"18.751308900524\">\n<p>They don&#8217;t make &#8217;em like they used to.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily we have international treasures such as Dame <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/judi_dench\">Judi Dench<\/a><\/strong> around to remind us both of how it was then and how good it can still be now.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;British&nbsp;star of stage and screen turned 85 today and since she&#8217;s as busy as ever, coming to a theater near you in&nbsp;<em>Cats<\/em>&nbsp;on Dec. 20 and with at least four more movies in various stages of production after that, we figured we&#8217;d take a moment to assess her prolific career now before we get even more hopelessly behind.<\/p>\n<p>Dench,&nbsp;who has made her indelible mark in every genre, from Shakespearean comedy and tragedy to 007 spy thriller,&nbsp;recently shared why she continues to work so hard even though she&#8217;d be well within her rights to stop and smell the exotic marigolds for a minute.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"65.491390728477\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"23.459602649007\">\n<p>&#8220;Every time I think, I&#8217;d better not turn this down, I may never get another,&#8221; she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/celebrity-news\/1145722\/Judi-Dench-age-health-James-Bo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told&nbsp;<em>Radio Times<\/em><\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow, we don&#8217;t think Dench needs to worry about such things.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, though, the idea of retirement is a nonstarter. &#8220;People retire to paint or walk\u2014do the things they&#8217;ve wanted to do all their lives,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>And Dench has been&nbsp;doing exactly what she wants this whole time.<\/p>\n<p>Though younger generations may know her mainly as James Bond&#8217;s polished boss M, or perhaps as the sharp-tongued Queen Elizabeth who was&nbsp;so compelling Dench won an Oscar for eight minutes of screen time in&nbsp;<em>Shakespeare in Love<\/em>, she&nbsp;started acting as a teenager and was a revered thespian in her native England for decades&nbsp;before the United States caught on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"42.5\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"32\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2013928\/rs_634x1024-131028055559-634-judi-jlcs-redcarpet-premiere.jpeg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Dame Judi Dench\" alt=\"Dame Judi Dench\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Dave J Hogan\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"23\">\n<p>Macular degeneration has made it much harder to prepare for roles, as she needs the scripts read to her, and she stopped driving a few years ago, which Dench admitted was quite &#8220;traumatic.&#8221; She also quipped that there may be some people who think she has snubbed them to their face, when in actuality she couldn&#8217;t see their face.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But, &#8220;there&#8217;s nothing you can do&#8221; about the condition, Dench said. &#8220;You adapt to it. Let us all have a go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Only one time did she worry about growing older, Dench shared.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The only time I got really upset was when I was 40, for some reason,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I got really upset when I was 40 and I was alright after that. It&#8217;s that old thing: you are only as old as you feel. It&#8217;s not to do with age; it&#8217;s something to do with inside.
