Joined by co-stars <strong>Florence Pugh<\/strong> and <strong>Eliza Scanlen<\/strong>, the <em>Lady Bird<\/em> actress weighed in on the absence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1100749\/the-golden-globes-majorly-snubs-female-directors-for-the-5th-consecutive-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">female directors in the Best Director category<\/a>, mirroring her co-star <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/laura_dern\">Laura Dern<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s sentiments that the disappointing news will serve as a catalyst for change.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Greta] has made one of the best movies of the year and I think, you know, Laura made a really good point yesterday and that, in a way, it&#8217;s sort of vital for something like this to happen because it reminds us of how far, obviously, we need to go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The nominees for Best Director <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/martin_scorsese\">Martin Scorsese<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<em>The Irishman<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/todd_phillips\">Todd Phillips<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<em>Joker<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/sam_mendes\">Sam Mendes<\/a><\/strong>for&nbsp;<em>1917<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong>Bong Joon-ho<\/strong>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<em>Parasite&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/quentin_tarantino\">Quentin Tarantino<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;for<em>&nbsp;Once Upon A Time&#8230;in Hollywood<\/em>, marking the fifth consecutive year that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has majorly snubbed female directors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"69.014486391572\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"30.346795434592\">\n<p>The&nbsp;year&#8217;s other notable female filmmakers include <em>A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood<\/em> director&nbsp;<strong>Marielle Heller<\/strong>, <strong>Lorene Scafaria<\/strong>, who directed one of 2019&#8217;s biggest films&nbsp;<em>Hustlers,&nbsp;<\/em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/olivia_wilde\">Olivia Wilde<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<em>Booksmart<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Harriet<\/em>&#8216;s&nbsp;<strong>Kasi Lemmons <\/strong>and <strong>Lulu Wang<\/strong>, who directed&nbsp;<em>The Farewell<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite Greta&#8217;s snub, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1097380\/why-saoirse-ronan-slapped-her-little-women-co-star-in-the-face-a-lot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Little Women<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;still has a lot to celebrate. It&#8217;s really, really tough.
