Man, weren&#8217;t those simpler times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-7768791\/Princess-Charlotte-asked-pony-Christmas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a recent <em>Closer<\/em> report<\/a> is to be believed, the royal offspring have really upped their Santa game.&nbsp;A source&nbsp;told the&nbsp;outlet (via the <em>Daily Mail<\/em>)&nbsp;that <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/princess_charlotte\">Princess Charlotte<\/a><\/strong> is &#8220;obsessed with horses,&#8221; as is practically her royal&nbsp;birthright, the women in her family tending to be excellent equestrians. As such, continued the source, &#8220;She&#8217;s asked for a pony.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_william\">Prince William<\/a><\/strong> is said to think his 4-year-old daughter is just a touch young to be&nbsp;trotting along in great-grandma <strong>Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong>&#8216;s footsteps, and might need to wait until next year. Instead both she and George (who seems likely to get the&nbsp;tennis racket he requested) will &#8220;be receiving children&#8217;s cookery&nbsp;sets because they love making a mess in the kitchen!&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-1\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"39.468845760981\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"22.553626149132\">\n<p>Mom and Dad, meanwhile, are&nbsp;whipping up some yuletide cheer. Because even without the kindergartner&#8217;s wish list fully realized, her holiday season will be heavy on the merry.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In their ongoing effort to give their pint-sized heirs to the British throne as normal a childhood as could be reasonably expected, William and wife <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/kate_middleton\">Kate Middleton<\/a><\/strong> lean in hard to the classic trappings of the season. &#8220;It&#8217;s important to them that their kids share childhood traditions like their school pals,&#8221; an insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/prince-william-kate-middletons-christmas-as-a-family-of-five\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told <em>Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> last year, adding that with it being <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_louis\">Prince Louis<\/a><\/strong>&#8216; first Christmas, they were &#8220;going all-out to make it extra special.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Though, that&#8217;s the general&nbsp;modus operandi in the Cambridge household, where the Christmas trees are plentiful (the one set up outside their four-story Kensington Palace apartment alone is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HRP_palaces\/status\/1070956829839101952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1070956829839101952&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.today.com%2Fnews%2Fkensington-palace-christmas-tree-unveiled-t144800\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">30 feet of grandeur<\/a>), the spirit is excessively jolly and the traditions are firmly entrenched. Like, some&nbsp;several decades of royal protocol entrenched.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"39.258687258687\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"21.065637065637\">\n<p>Such will be the case this year when the&nbsp;family spends the holiday at Gan-Gan&#8217;s for the third year running.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As one might expect, the monarch runs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1100066\/how-royal-protocol-keeps-drama-to-a-minimum-at-the-queen-s-christmas-celebration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a fairly tight ship<\/a> during her three days of festivities at Sandringham, her quaint, 20,000-acre country home in Norfolk. The affair kicks off on Christmas Eve with presents in the&nbsp;red drawing room (while adults exchange gag gifts, more expensive items thought to be gauche for the wealthy family, children receive actual toys) followed by supper.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas morning service is a must for all but the&nbsp;littlest&nbsp;of royals (William was 5 when he first attended while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_harry\">Prince Harry<\/a><\/strong> didn&#8217;t turn up at St. Mary Magdalene until he was 7) and while the Queen and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_philip\">Prince Philip<\/a><\/strong> are chauffeured over, the younger royals are expected to make a show of it, the walk in their church finery drawing thousands of curious spectators. Which means children\u2014along with George, 5, Charlotte, and 20-month-old Louis, the Tindall&#8217;s girls <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/mia\">MIA<\/a><\/strong>, 5, and <strong>Lena<\/strong>, 18 months, are&nbsp;set to attend as are <strong>Savannah<\/strong>, 8, and <strong>Isla Phillips<\/strong>, 7, daughters of Zara&#8217;s brother <strong>Peter Phillips<\/strong> and his wife, <strong>Autumn<\/strong>\u2014are expected to behave or&nbsp;dig into their roasted turkey at the kids&#8217; table set up in the nursery. (The family&#8217;s youngest royal <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/archie_harrison\">Archie Harrison<\/a><\/strong>, of course, will be enjoying a much quieter Christmas with Harry, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/meghan_markle\">Meghan Markle<\/a><\/strong> and grandma <strong>Doria Ragland<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63.260820045558\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"22.660592255125\">\n<p>Still, for all the formality, it&#8217;s understood that kids, even ones with blue-blooded lineages, will be hopped up on sugar and visions of Santa on Christmas Day and part of the fun, as Harry relayed to former President <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/barack_obama\">Barack Obama<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-42488837\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on BBC Radio 4&#8217;s <em>Today<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;in 2017 is &#8220;running around with the kids.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also, as you might imagine, Christmas in a palace is quite lovely, a team of workers responsible for making sure every bough of holly is hung and every tree is trimmed. While helping children select their tannenbaum at Peterley Manor Farm, her first outing as patron of the charity Family Action, a role passed onto her by the Queen, &#8220;She was asking about the trees which drop their needles and those that don&#8217;t, and which ones smell nice!&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/kate-middleton-shares-secrets-of-her-family-christmas-tree-and-how-to-avoid-pine-needle-clean-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said owner<\/a> Roger Brill.
