E! News has not confirmed this, and has learned that&nbsp;the actor was seen in the United States&nbsp;a little more than a week ago&nbsp;after wrapping&nbsp;the series, and appeared healthy.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/subscribe\/news\/1\/?sourceCode=DTWEB_WRE170_a_GGL&amp;dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailytelegraph.com.au%2Fnews%2Fnsw%2Fzac-efrons-lifeordeath-flight-to-australia-after-falling-ill-in-png%2Fnews-story%2F2b3d6f107db04f13fea176e5355bfce2&amp;memtype=anonymous&amp;mode=premium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunday Telegraph<\/a><\/em> newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressreader.com\/australia\/the-sunday-telegraph-sydney\/20191229\/281509343101062\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;on Saturday that Efron had contracted what is believed to be a typhoid or other bacterial infection while on the island country of Papua New Guinea, where he&#8217;s been&nbsp;shooting the new Quibi series <em>Killing Zac Efron<\/em>, and was airlifted by emergency medical workers to an airport in Brisbane, Australia, where he was then transported to a private hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Efron&#8217;s rep had no immediate comment about the report when contacted by E! News.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Sunday<\/em><em>&nbsp;Telegraph<\/em>, whose report was picked up by outlets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/zac-efron-illness-filming-doc-killing-zac-efron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fox News<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/newsround\/50938683\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/zac-efron-reportedly-rushed-hospital-dangerous-bacterial-infection-caught-while-filming-killing-1479538\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newsweek<\/a>, and multiple U.K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/zac-efron-hospital-papua-new-guinea-health-typhoid-latest-a9263011.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">newspapers<\/a>,&nbsp;said that&nbsp;the actor spent several days at the hospital and that doctors allowed him to travel home to the U.S. on Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. <strong>Glenn McKay<\/strong> from the Medical Rescue Group told the <em>Daily Telegraph<\/em> that a team &#8220;retrieved a U.S. citizen in his 30s from PNG to Brisbane recently for medical attention in Australia,&#8221; and that he was &#8220;admitted to St Andrews War Memorial Hospital&nbsp;in a stable condition.&#8221; He declined to name the patient.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"56.229230769231\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"18.027692307692\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1095115\/zac-efron-is-heading-deep-into-the-jungle-for-new-quibi-show-killing-zac-efron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Killing Zac Efron<\/em>, which was announced in November<\/a>, sees Efron spending 21 days off the grid,&nbsp;&#8220;deep into the jungles of a remote, dangerous island,&#8221;&nbsp;&#8220;with nothing but basic gear, a guide partner and a will to survive.&#8221; The <em>Sunday Telegraph<\/em> said Efron fell ill while he was in the middle of filming the show.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwnc.cdc.gov\/travel\/destinations\/traveler\/none\/papua-new-guinea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>, the bacteria that causes typhoid fever,&nbsp;a life-threatening illness,&nbsp;can be&nbsp;found in contaminated water and food in Papua New Guinea.&nbsp;People who contract it&nbsp;can be treated with antibiotics.&nbsp;Vaccines are available.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Originally published on Sunday, December 29 at&nbsp;8:16 a.m. PT)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1106270\/zac-efron-rushed-to-hospital-in-australia-with-possible-typhoid-infection-before-holidays-report?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&#038;utm_source=eonline&#038;utm_medium=rssfeeds&#038;utm_campaign=rss_topstories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: E!
