Fans honored Kobe Bryant<\/a><\/strong> and Gianna Bryant<\/strong> with a celebration of life service<\/a> on Monday. <\/p>\n

Attendees arrived at the Los Angeles Staples Center\u2014often referred to as “the house that Kobe built”\u2014in their Lakers attire and were given booklets featuring photos of the Bryant family<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The date of the public memorial\u20142\/24\/20\u2014held significance for the Bryant family. Two and 24 represented the numbers that appeared on Gianna’s and Kobe’s basketball jerseys, respectively. In addition, the number 20 represented the number of years Kobe played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the number of years he was with his wife Vanessa Bryant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Many celebrities<\/a>\u2014including Beyonc\u00e9<\/a><\/strong>, Alicia Keys<\/a><\/strong>, Jimmy Kimmel<\/a><\/strong>, Christina Aguilera<\/a><\/strong>, Kim Kardashian<\/a><\/strong> and Kanye West<\/a><\/strong>\u2014attended the service. Several athletes<\/a>\u2014including Michael Jordan<\/strong>, Stephen Curry<\/a><\/strong> and Michael Phelps<\/a><\/strong>\u2014did, as well. Many current and former Lakers players attended the celebration of life, too. Shaquille O’Neal<\/strong>, Magic Johnson<\/strong> and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar<\/strong> were all there. Anthony Davis<\/strong>, Phil Jackson<\/strong> and Kyle Kuzma<\/strong> attended, as well.<\/p>\n

At one point, Shaq looked back at his friendship<\/a> with Kobe in a touching speech.<\/p>\n

“Kobe was a loyal friend and a true renaissance man. As many of you know, Kobe and I had a very complex relationship throughout the years,” he said at one point. “Kobe and I pushed one another to play some of the best basketball of all time.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Kobe and Gianna died<\/a> in a helicopter crash in January. They were 41 years old and 13 years old, respectively.<\/p>\n

Seven others were also killed in the tragic accident: John Altobelli<\/strong>, a baseball coach  at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa; his wife, Keri Altobelli<\/strong>; their daughter, Alyssa Altobelli<\/strong>; Christina<\/strong> Mauser<\/strong>, an assistant basketball coach at Kobe’s Mamba Sports Academy; Payton Chester<\/strong>, who played on the team; her mother, Sarah Chester<\/strong>; and Ara Zobayan<\/strong>, the pilot.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

All of the proceeds from the celebration of life ticket sales were donated to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation. According to the website, the organization “exists to further Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s legacy through charitable endeavors in sports.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
