According to the website,&nbsp;the&nbsp;movement was created &#8220;in observance of the long-standing racism and inequality that exists from the boardroom to the boulevard.&#8221; The music executives made it clear they would not be conducting business as usual on June 2 and encouraged other leaders in the industry to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a day to take a beat for honest, reflective, and productive conversation about what actions we need to collectively take to support the Black community,&#8221; a message on the&nbsp;website stated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;movement grew and soon people beyond the music industry were participating in the social media blackout.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"66.315328467153\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"23.754744525547\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/rihanna\">Rihanna<\/a><\/strong> showed her support and her brand, Fenty, did, as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are not staying silent and we are not standing by,&#8221; a statement from the company read. &#8220;The fight against racial inequality, injustice, and straight up racism doesn&#8217;t stop with financial donations and words of support. In solidarity with the black community, our employees, our friends, our families, and our colleagues across industries, we are proud to take part in #blackouttuesday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The organization then announced it would be closing its business globally for the full day.&nbsp; &#8220;This is not a day off, this is a day to reflect and find ways to make real change,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;This is a day to #pullup.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"22.94\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"5.18\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/taylor_swift\">Taylor Swift<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/idris_elba\">Idris Elba<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/kylie_jenner\">Kylie Jenner<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/jamie_foxx\">Jamie Foxx<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/michael_b_jordan\">Michael B. Jordan<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/oprah_winfrey\">Oprah Winfrey<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/blake_lively\">Blake Lively<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/chris_harrison\">Chris Harrison<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/bryan_cranston\">Bryan Cranston<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/jessica_alba\">Jessica Alba<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;and more stars participated in the movement, as well.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-6\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"17\">\n<p>However,&nbsp;<strong>Lil Nas X<\/strong> believed the initiative would &#8220;slow down&#8221; the momentum.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know y&#8217;all mean well but\u2026 bro saying stop posting for a day is the worst idea ever,&#8221; the &#8220;Old Town Road&#8221; artist tweeted, later adding, &#8220;I just really think this is the time to push as hard as ever. I don&#8217;t think the movement has ever been this powerful. We don&#8217;t need to slow it down by posting nothing.
