Breckenridge councilman honored in record of US House<\/p>\n

U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Colo., honored former Breckenridge Councilman Mark Burke on May 10 in the U.S. House of Representatives after Burke on died April 22 at his second home in Denver.<\/p>\n

On record in the House, Neguse touted how Burke was renowned throughout the Summit County community for his work to help Breckenridge grow over two consecutive terms on town council.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring his time in office, he worked tirelessly to better the city\u2019s education system and protect the community\u2019s natural environment,\u201d Neguse said of Burke. \u201cHe also led efforts to develop the city\u2019s infrastructure and helped it to recover following the Great Recession.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neguse didn\u2019t fail to mention Burke was \u201ca loving friend\u201d to those around him, and many people remember him going out of his way to help those in need, or even just to brighten up someone\u2019s day.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo Mark, lending a hand was not a challenge, but an opportunity,\u201d Neguse continued. \u201cMark\u2019s love of life and those he shared it with fundamentally changed my home state of Colorado and our entire nation for the better.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis leadership and devotion to others brought changes to his community that will be enjoyed for years to come. I hope others in this body and throughout this nation will join me in remembering Mark and the tremendous service he gave to his community and country.\u201d<\/p>\n
