The 1,708 individuals cited is a decrease from the 1,932 citations given during last year\u2019s spring enforcement period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cDrugs and alcohol reduce the function of the brain, impairing thinking, reasoning and muscle coordination \u2014 all of which are essential to safely operating a vehicle,\u201d said Col. Matthew Packard, chief of the Colorado State Patrol. \u201cThe CSP hopes that drivers will always choose designated drivers or alternative modes of transportation, and watch out for friends and family who should not be driving.
