Even though he was one of the fittest people around, Ferguson died April 22 at age 49 from skin cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Coach Fergs believed that fitness wasn\u2019t just for athletes or the most physically able; he believed it was for everyone, no matter their age or ability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">As for the fundraising event in Ferguson\u2019s honor, the gym will support his wishes of starting a scholarship for students pursuing nursing degrees at the University of Colorado.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">According to his wife and friends, Ferguson developed a close bond with his nurses at the hospital where he was receiving treatment for his illness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Additionally, the gym has put together a silent auction with Broncos tickets, gift certificates to local business like the Hearthstone Restaurant, Downstairs at Eric\u2019s and Daylight Doughnuts along with other items from businesses like Mountain Street Sports. Proceeds from the auction will go to support the scholarship fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI think it\u2019s a great cause,\u201d said coach David Walker, a close friend of Ferguson\u2019s who saw him as a father figure, role model and mentor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThe nurses that helped Scott, they went above and beyond,\u201d Walker said, adding that working in a cancer ward is a hard job he doesn\u2019t think most people would want to do but one that Ferguson understood as critically important after going through his treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Breckenridge Crossfit, 1805 Airport Road, opens its doors at 11 a.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Beyond the silent auction and accepting donations for the scholarship fund, gym owner Dan Messinger has designed a workout he thinks honors Ferguson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The workout is so approachable, Messinger said, that almost anyone can do it.
