The ivory wool crepe ensemble featured cropped jacket &#8220;panels&#8221; that were traced in black lace. The royal accessorized her look with black Prada suede pumps and a matching hat by Sylvia Fletcher for Lock &amp; Co. She also donned a pair of drop earrings and swept her hair back into a chic up-do.<\/p>\n<p>Some royal admirers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elle.com\/culture\/celebrities\/a28065867\/kate-middleton-catherine-walker-dress-coat-garter-day-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">likened<\/a> Kate&#8217;s look to the white and black ensemble <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/meghan_markle\">Meghan Markle<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;wore to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/945259\/meghan-markle-makes-her-royal-ascot-debut-in-style\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Ascot opener<\/a> in 2018. As fans will recall, the Duchess of Sussex donned a Givenchy dress and Philip Treacy fascinator for the big day. Others thought her look resembled the black and white ensemble <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/princess_diana\">Princess Diana<\/a><\/strong> wore to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/celebrity\/latest\/a27403182\/kate-middleton-princess-diana-order-of-the-garter-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the VJ Day 50th anniversary celebration<\/a> in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Meghan, the new mother did not attend the Order of the Garter service. Neither did her husband <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_harry\">Prince Harry<\/a><\/strong>. Meghan is currently enjoying maternity leave with her baby boy <strong>Archie<\/strong> <strong>Harrison<\/strong> and Harry was busy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1050022\/how-prince-harry-is-carrying-on-princess-diana-s-legacy-in-angola?query=prince%20harry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attending an Africa Programme event at Chatham House<\/a>. He also isn&#8217;t a Knight of the Garter.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"53.810096153846\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"9.7836538461538\">\n<p>Still, there were plenty of other royals in attendance. In addition to Kate, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_william\">Prince William<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_charles\">Prince Charles<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/queen_elizabeth\">Queen Elizabeth II<\/a><\/strong> were there\u2014all of whom wore the traditional robes, insignia and plumed hats. They were also joined by <strong>Camilla<\/strong>, <strong>Duchess of Cornwall<\/strong>; <strong>Sophie, Countess of Wessex<\/strong>; <strong>King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands<\/strong>; <strong>Queen Maxima of the Netherlands<\/strong>; <strong>King<\/strong> <strong>Felipe of Spain<\/strong> and <strong>Queen Letizia of Spain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"33\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"6\">\n<p>The Order of the Garter was established by King Edward III and inspired by the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. According to the Palace, the annual gathering now begins with Her Majesty investing any new Companions with the Order&#8217;s insignia followed by a luncheon.
