Since announcing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/shows\/kardashians\/news\/1051974\/kim-kardashian-shares-first-look-at-her-new-shapewear-line-kimono-and-chrissy-teigen-is-excited\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launch of the shapewear line<\/a>, Kardashian has come under fire for misrepresenting the traditional Japanese garment and trying to trademark Kimono, especially considering it&#8217;s place in the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mariaria108_new\/status\/1144066822573977600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">history of Japan<\/a>. Moreover, some people appeared to find it disrespectful that she used the word kimono in connection to images of women in their undergarments.<\/p>\n<p>While the moniker is partly inspired by her first name, similar to her Kimoji line, it is also derived from the traditional garment. In her statement, she shares,&#8221;I made the decision to name my company Kimono, not to disassociate the word from its Japanese roots but as a nod to the beauty and detail that goes into a garment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture,&#8221; the 38-year-old explains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"57\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"4\">\n<p>She adds, &#8220;My solutionwear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core and I&#8217;m incredibly proud of what&#8217;s to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"socialcontent-twitter-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-type=\"async\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"57.141768292683\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.524390243902\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">Nice underwear, but as a Japanese woman who loves to wear our traditional dress,? kimono, I find the naming of your products baffling (since it has no resemblance to kimono), if not outright culturally offensive, especially if it\u2019s merely a word play on your name.
