Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor<\/strong>, Meghan Markle<\/a><\/strong> and Prince Harry<\/a><\/strong>‘s first child and son, was christened on Saturday<\/a> in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

Many members of the royal family were there to celebrate the momentous occasion. In addition to the proud parents, attendees included the child’s uncle Prince William<\/a><\/strong> and aunt Kate Middleton<\/a><\/strong>, grandparents Prince Charles<\/a><\/strong> and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall<\/strong>, and great-aunts Lady Jane Fellowes<\/strong> and Lady Sarah McCorquodale<\/strong>\u2014sisters of Harry and William’s late mother Princess Diana<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong> and Prince Philip<\/a><\/strong> did not attend due to a prior engagement.<\/p>\n

The young royal was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby<\/strong>\u2014the same person who performed the christenings of William and Kate’s children Prince George<\/a><\/strong>, Princess Charlotte<\/a><\/strong> and Prince Louis<\/a><\/strong>. He also officiated Harry and Meghan’s wedding<\/a> vows in May 2018 and baptized<\/a> the Duchess of Sussex two months before the nuptials.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Per tradition, Archie wore a handmade replica<\/a> of the Royal Christening Robe. The robe was originally made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria<\/strong>‘s eldest daughter, Victoria<\/strong>. Queen Elizabeth II later commissioned a handmade replica, which George, Charlotte and Louis wore on their big days.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

This isn’t the only tradition William and Kate are expected to uphold. They’re also expected to serve their guests christening cake, which is actually a tier from their royal wedding cake.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
