{"id":27094,"date":"2019-07-16T10:11:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T16:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b1057010"},"modified":"2019-07-16T10:11:00","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T16:11:00","slug":"no-big-little-lies-stranger-things-and-the-handmaids-tale-did-not-get-snubbed-by-the-2019-emmys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kift\/music-news\/no-big-little-lies-stranger-things-and-the-handmaids-tale-did-not-get-snubbed-by-the-2019-emmys\/","title":{"rendered":"No, Big Little Lies, Stranger Things, and The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale Did Not Get Snubbed by the 2019 Emmys"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019615\/rs_600x600-190715190710-600-stranger-things-BLL-handmaids-tale-me-71519.jpg?fit=around|600:467&amp;crop=600:467;center,top&amp;output-quality=90\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"39.552259887006\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"21.223163841808\">\n<p>Don&#8217;t get yourself too worked up just yet!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You may not have been able to spot <em>Stranger Things<\/em>, <em>Big Little Lies<\/em>, or <em>The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale<\/em>\u2014three of the biggest shows of the year\u2014amongst the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1054689\/2019-emmy-nominations-complete-list-of-nominees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2019 Emmy nominees<\/a>, which were just announced (and which you can see below), but do not worry, because there&#8217;s a very good reason, and it all has to do with airdate.<\/p>\n<p>The rules are somewhat complicated, but generally, the majority of episodes of a show must air in primetime between June 1 of the previous year and May 31 of the current year, though shows are also eligible if episodes were made available to voters before June, and then aired in June. <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2019\/tv\/news\/the-handmaids-tale-emmys-2019-categories-1203178066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Variety<\/a> has the full rundown of the Emmy organization&#8217;s rules.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"60.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"11\">\n<p>Three episodes of season two of <em>The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale<\/em> aired in July and August of last year, so that&#8217;s why the show was eligible and nominated in 2019 for directing (for the episode &#8220;Holly&#8221;), writing (also for the episode &#8220;Holly&#8221;), and guest actor and actress. <strong>Bradley Whitford<\/strong> is nominated for his role as Commander Joseph Lawrence, and <strong>Cherry Jones<\/strong> as Holly, but the show was not eligible for a series nom, or lead actor or actress.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"55.65414507772\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"17.124352331606\">\n<p>Meanwhile, season 3 of The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale debuted June 5,&nbsp;<em>Big Little Lies<\/em> premiered its current season on June 9, and <em>Stranger Things<\/em> dropped all of season three on July 4, all after the May 31 cutoff date. Neither&nbsp;<em>Big Little Lies<\/em> nor <em>Stranger Things<\/em>&nbsp;aired in 2018, so it&#8217;s going to be a hell of a fight in 2020. Imagine, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/meryl_streep\">Meryl Streep<\/a><\/strong> vs. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/winona_ryder\">Winona Ryder<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/reese_witherspoon\">Reese Witherspoon<\/a><\/strong> vs. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/millie_bobby_brown\">Millie Bobby Brown<\/a><\/strong>. <strong>Dacre Montgomery<\/strong>&nbsp;vs. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/adam_scott\">Adam Scott<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/elisabeth_moss\">Elisabeth Moss<\/a><\/strong> vs. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/nicole_kidman\">Nicole Kidman<\/a><\/strong> vs. <strong>Natalia Dyer<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We can&#8217;t wait, but we&#8217;re going to have to.
