{"id":27250,"date":"2019-07-17T14:36:42","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T20:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/?p=58879"},"modified":"2019-07-17T14:36:42","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T20:36:42","slug":"letter-grand-county-should-be-proud-of-its-first-responders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kift\/community\/letter-grand-county-should-be-proud-of-its-first-responders\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter: Grand County should be proud of its first responders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My family and I wish to thank the people of Grand County, especially<br \/>\nthose who were first responders, for their assistance to us as we went through<br \/>\nthe tragic deaths of our beloved parents this past May.<\/p>\n<p>Allen and Betty Shelton were involved in a crash on Red Dirt<br \/>\nHill on May 15 that took both of their lives. As devastating as this was and<br \/>\nhas continued to be, we have been blessed by the assistance of the corner\u2019s office<br \/>\nand sheriff\u2019s office during this time, and as we saw the pictures of the crash<br \/>\nscene, the numerous first responders that showed up to assist our parents in the<br \/>\nlast moments of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Never imaging that we would lose them both at one time, we<br \/>\nneeded special attention during an unbearable stretch of time, and Brenda Bock<br \/>\nand her staff went over and above to provide that for us.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath, being from Denver, we needed assistance<br \/>\nwith our parents\u2019 possessions and disposition with their car, and Lt. Dan Meyer<br \/>\nfrom the sheriff&#8217;s office drove the contents of their car down to us in Denver.<br \/>\nJohn Erickson of the Colorado State Patrol has been especially helpful as our<br \/>\nvictim&#8217;s advocate. <\/p>\n<p>Allen and Betty were fixtures in their community in<br \/>\nSaratoga, Wyoming, pastoring there for more than 25 years. This loss has left a<br \/>\ngigantic hole in not only our lives but in the lives of those they ministered<br \/>\nto in Saratoga. Knowing that the people who responded to their last moments<br \/>\ncared and empathized with our loss and sought to minister to us during an<br \/>\nincomprehensible time was not only comforting to us but reassuring that for<br \/>\nthose people their careers are much more than jobs they are a true service to those<br \/>\nthey are there to assist.<\/p>\n<p>Grand County, you can be proud of your first responders,<br \/>\nyour coroner and sheriff&#8217;s office, and we thank them for their service to our<br \/>\nfamily.<\/p>\n<p>Jim McCormick, Lakewood<br \/>son-in-law of Allen and Betty Shelton<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My family and I wish to thank the people of Grand County, especially those who were first responders, for their assistance to us as we went through the tragic deaths of our beloved parents this past May.
