{"id":27418,"date":"2019-07-22T09:48:23","date_gmt":"2019-07-22T15:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b1058493"},"modified":"2019-07-22T09:48:23","modified_gmt":"2019-07-22T15:48:23","slug":"david-spade-opens-up-about-the-tragic-deaths-of-kate-spade-and-chris-farley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kift\/music-news\/david-spade-opens-up-about-the-tragic-deaths-of-kate-spade-and-chris-farley\/","title":{"rendered":"David Spade Opens Up About the Tragic Deaths of Kate Spade and Chris Farley"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"block-0-img\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"32.5\">\n<div class=\"post-content__image\" readability=\"35\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019622\/rs_1024x759-190722074442-1024x759-spade-gj-7-22-19.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" border=\"0\" title=\"David Spade, Kate Spade, Chris Farley\" alt=\"David Spade, Kate Spade, Chris Farley\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"759\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Jon Kopaloff\/Getty Images, Andrew Toth\/Getty Images for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Joseph Marzullo\/Mediapunch\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"35.886727688787\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"21.109839816934\">\n<p>It&#8217;s been a little over a year since <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/kate_spade\">Kate Spade<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1046897\/remembering-kate-spade-look-back-at-her-life-in-pictures-1-year-after-death\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tragic death<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/david_spade\">David Spade<\/a><\/strong> reflected on his sister-in-law&#8217;s passing in a new interview with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/07\/22\/arts\/television\/david-spade-is-back-on-tv-even-though-he-never-left.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Farts&amp;action=click&amp;contentCollection=arts&amp;region=rank&amp;module=package&amp;version=highlights&amp;contentPlacement=1&amp;pgtype=sectionfront\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>published Monday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Katy was so funny,&#8221; he told the newspaper. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know if agoraphobic is a word, but she didn&#8217;t like to mingle a lot; she&#8217;d have people at her house and she was always so funny.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fashion designer was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/941474\/kate-spade-found-dead-at-55-after-apparent-suicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found unconscious and unresponsive<\/a> in her New York apartment on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The Medical Examiner&#8217;s Office ruled her death suicide by hanging. Her husband, <strong>Andy Spade<\/strong>, later revealed she had &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/942009\/andy-spade-breaks-his-silence-after-wife-kate-spade-s-death\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suffered from anxiety and depression for many years<\/a>,&#8221; and that she was &#8220;actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel like Katy wouldn&#8217;t have done it, five minutes later,&#8221; David said. &#8220;But these things happen and there&#8217;s no going back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"62.069182389937\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"25.899371069182\">\n<p>Sadly, this wasn&#8217;t the first time the comedy star had lost a loved one. According to <em>The New York Times<\/em>, his stepfather took his own life when David was 15. He also had a few &#8220;close friends&#8221; pass away during his high school and college years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People just started going right and left, and I would sit and stare at a wall,&#8221; David recalled, later adding: &#8220;I just said, &#8216;OK, I guess I&#8217;ll cross my fingers that it doesn&#8217;t happen to everyone.&#8217; And more people would go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>David also recently mourned the death of comedian <strong>Brody Stevens<\/strong>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1017518\/comedian-brody-stevens-dead-of-apparent-suicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">who frequently opened his acts and committed suicide in February<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he said he still receives hateful comments from fans mourning the death of <strong>Chris Farley\u2014<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/900903\/chris-farley-died-20-years-ago-today-relive-his-5-best-moments-from-saturday-night-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">who died of a drug overdose in 1997\u2014<\/a>including one&nbsp;that read, &#8220;I wish you died instead of Chris Farley.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first couple times it was rough,&#8221; he told <em>The New York Times<\/em>, &#8220;but now it&#8217;s the standard burn. I wish I didn&#8217;t get that three times a week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"64.361379310345\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"21.453793103448\">\n<p>In fact, he suspects that some fans will never get used to seeing him without his <em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> and <em>Tommy Boy<\/em> co-star.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But do you just stop doing what you&#8217;re doing because of a tragedy?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;You have to go, &#8216;Well, I still like doing this.&#8217; Some people won&#8217;t be interested. But I did three sitcoms after that. It wasn&#8217;t totally horrible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While experiencing all of these losses hasn&#8217;t been easy, David continues to move forward. He&#8217;s even starring in a new late-night series called <em>Lights Out With David Spade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to say I&#8217;m immune to it,&#8221; he said, &#8220;but there&#8217;s a way you just have to learn to shut off the tear valve.
