Roughly halfway between the shores of Shadow Mountain
\nReservoir and Lake Granby you will find a little church with a big heart called
\nStillwater Chapel.<\/p>\n

Stillwater Chapel has been in existence for many years but
\nroughly four years ago the church welcomed its current minister when Pastor Dan
\nSavage began leading the congregation. Originally from Maine, Savage spent over
\na decade at Grace Mountain Church in Colorado Springs before making the move up
\nto the High Country. According to Savage the congregation at Stillwater has
\nundergone some significant changes over the last few years including the
\naddition of more contemporary music choices to accompany its traditional hymn
\nselections.  <\/p>\n

\u201cThe church as grown in more ways than one,\u201d he said with a
\nsmile. <\/p>\n

Savage noted that as Stillwater Chapel has grown in recent
\nyears it has acquired more permanent local residents within its congregation,
\nhelping create a unique blend of local workers worshipping alongside second
\nhomeowners, proverbial snowbirds and visiting tourists. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat has been fun to see happen,\u201d Savage said. \u201cBut that is
\nhow church is supposed to be. I think we sometimes get caught up in trying to worship
\nwith people just like us because we are comfortable. But I feel we have gotten
\nout of that comfort zone in a healthy way. It is refreshing and I think it
\nglorifies God. We are more of a hospital for sinners than a museum for the
\nsaints.\u201d <\/p>\n

Savage noted that Stillwater Chapel, like so many church\u2019s
\nand entities in the US, went through a somewhat difficult period following the
\neconomic downturn that started in 2008. But any challenges notwithstanding the
\nchurch has continued to maintain what Savage called its \u201clong held slogan and
\nethos of \u2018come as you are\u201d, which he said embodies the church\u2019s welcoming and
\nhospitable spirit. Savage referenced Romans 12:16 as the scriptural basis for
\nthat ethos.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe of the same mind toward one another,\u201d Savage stated, quoting from the New Testament. \u201cDo not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Do not pretend to be wiser than you are.\u201d<\/p>\n
