A film highlighting the importance of nature and conservation will be screened at the Granby Library at 4 p.m. Saturday. <\/p>\n
The film\u2019s executive producer, Suez Jacobson, will present \u201cWild Hope\u201d and take questions after.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really like to put the film in context by having people
\nrecall a favorite childhood memory,\u201d Jacobson said. \u201cIt\u2019s always an outdoor
\nexperience regardless of where they grew up.\u201d<\/p>\n
The film\u2019s showing is sponsored by the Granby chapter of the Great Old Broads for Wilderness. Appreciation of nature and pushing conservation are the main missions of the Great Old Broads and the central themes of the film.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is about how the wonder in nature can help us rethink a
\nconsumer society,\u201d Jacobson said.<\/p>\n
Jacobson holds a doctorate in economics and retired as a
\nprofessor at Regis College in 2018. Her film challenges the economic
\nunderpinnings driving climate change and encourages everyone to enjoy nature. <\/p>\n
In a county like Grand where the majority of lands are
\npublic, Jacobson said the message is very necessary. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important not just in Grand County, but in all of
\nColorado,\u201d Jacobson said. \u201cWe have these amazing landscapes and it\u2019s the
\npreservation of lands that feeds our souls \u2014 that rewires our brains to be less
\nself centered and more community minded.\u201d<\/p>\n
The showing will also include snacks and a silent auction at
\nthe library.<\/p>\n
Jacobson said she hopes Granby and the county as a whole feel inspired after the film.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope they take away a spirit of opportunity and a spirit
\nof wonder for our natural places,\u201d Jacobson said. \u201cA spirit of committing to
