opened in November<\/a>. The temporary bridge next to the completed one will be demolished and landscaping projects are planned for the spring.<\/p>\nGrand Lake\u2019s budget for the coming year highlighted road
\nimprovements as a major priority, focusing on two projects. According to the
\nbudget, the town reserves will decrease by over $1.5 million for these projects
\n\u201ccritical to Grand Lake\u2019s economic appeal as a world class family vacation
\ndestination.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to town manager John Crone, Grand Lake will see
\ntwo major road improvements in town limits this year. The simpler project will
\nbe the repaving of Grand Avenue from US 34 to Ellsworth Street. <\/p>\n
The more complex project planned this summer is the next phase of the town\u2019s streetscape project. Work will be on Park Avenue from Vine Street to Hancock Street including work on intersecting streets, Crone said.<\/p>\n
This project will add 120 new parking spaces as a way to
\nintegrate the road into the downtown system, which sees huge influxes of
\nvisitors in the summer and especially during its popular Fourth of July
\nfireworks show.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if there will ever be ample parking on July
\nFourth, but this will make it easier,\u201d Crone added.<\/p>\n
It will also include putting in new sewage and drainage
\nsystems throughout the entire structure of the road, adding pedestrian pathways
\nand possible streetlights.<\/p>\n
The town is still deciding parameters of the streetlights
\nand whether pedestrian pathways will be added on both sides of the street or
\njust the south side. If all goes to plan, the work will start this summer \u2014 though
\nthat is the busiest time of year for tourism in Grand Lake.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is going to create a parking problem over the summer,
\nthere\u2019s no stopping that,\u201d Crone said.<\/p>\n
Even with this traffic obstacle, the town board has
\nindicated that finishing Park Avenue needs to be a priority to increase parking
\nand improve water clarity. The town has been working on other projects like
\nlandscaping along Grand Avenue and those remain to be complete.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know a lot of people are concerned we haven\u2019t finished
\nlandscaping, but the fact that we\u2019re going to Park Avenue doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re
