Middle Park wrestling saw strong individual performances at the Bennett Invitational, a tournament featuring more than 20 teams from around the state Saturday at Bennett High School.<\/p>\n
For the Panthers, junior Champ Stuart made his season debut
\nat 160 pounds and won three matches, as he finished in fourth place. To get
\nthere, Stuart pinned his first opponent in less than 30 seconds and won his
\nsecond match 7-4 before losing a 6-4 decision in the semifinals. Stuart then came
\nback to win another decision before losing a barnburner 2-1.<\/p>\n
Freshman Jacob Barr put in a solid performance at 220 pounds
\nfor Middle Park. At 138 pounds, Gabe Martensen also had good day for the Panthers,
\nas he finished the day 2-2.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Kaleb Brumley put together his best high
\nschool performance to date by going 3-1 in the 182 pound classification and winning
\nthe fifth place consolation bracket. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf Kaleb continues to work on a few small details, he might
\nsurprise a lot of people at the end of the season,\u201d coach Brian Stuart said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Brumley\u2019s brother, Kyle, was bumped up to the 220
\npound weight class, and he finished in sixth place with a 2-2 record at the
\ninvitational. <\/p>\n
