{"id":40069,"date":"2020-01-23T11:21:05","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T18:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/?p=377756"},"modified":"2020-01-23T11:21:05","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T18:21:05","slug":"watch-at-noon-thursday-summit-slopestyle-snowboarders-highlight-x-games-day-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kift\/local-news\/watch-at-noon-thursday-summit-slopestyle-snowboarders-highlight-x-games-day-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: At noon Thursday, Summit slopestyle snowboarders highlight X Games Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/02\/XGames-SDN-012619-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><\/figure>\n<p>ASPEN \u2014 This winter\u2019s X Games Aspen at Buttermilk Ski Area got off to a soft, snowy start Wednesday evening when Longmont native and Dillon resident Chase Blackwell qualified through in the final position to Thursday night\u2019s primetime men\u2019s snowboard superpipe final (8 p.m. on ESPN).<\/p>\n<p>For Blackwell, it was a dream come true at his first X Games years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/dillons-chase-blackwell-to-realize-dream-of-competing-at-x-games-on-wednesday\/\">after he and his father made it a tradition to attend the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s primetime men\u2019s snowboard superpipe final, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/aussie-rider-scotty-james-goes-for-10-straight-wins-as-new-format-hits-superpipe-at-x-games\/\">which is taking place with a new jam format this year<\/a>, is far from the only event going on at Buttermilk on Thursday\u2019s first big day of the X Games. At high noon, Summit County snowboarders Chris Corning and Red Gerard will compete in a talented and deep men\u2019s snowboard slopestyle elimination round.<\/p>\n<p>Corning and Gerard will look to make the cut to Saturday\u2019s snowboard slopestyle final (1:45 p.m.) from a 16-rider field that features one heavy-hitter after another. Names like Sebastien Toutant, Sven Thorgren, Max Parrot, Stale Sandbech and Darcy Sharpe litter the elimination round roster. Then there\u2019s talented young riders like Brock Crouch, Judd Henkes and Luke Winkelmann, who are also competing.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, it\u2019s no guarantee Gerard and Corning make it out of qualifiers.
