Families will have a chance to explore the serene beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park in the winter through an educational snowshoe hiking series.<\/p>\n
Rocky Mountain Conservancy\u2019s Field Institute Program will be offering a four-hour educational snowshoe hike on Feb. 22, March 7 and March 28.<\/p>\n
Participants will be led through snow-covered pine, spruce and fir trees to learn how plants and animals adapt to survive in the winter months. Hikers will also learn about the properties of snow during this class and how it can help local inhabitants through the season.<\/p>\n
The four mile, back and out hike leads to Hidden Falls, a frozen waterfall and ice climbing destination not often seen by Rocky Mountain visitors. The course is classified as a moderate hike with an elevation gain of less than 1,000 feet.<\/p>\n
Organizers say the hike is great for beginners wanting to try snowshoeing for the first time.<\/p>\n
The hike is free for children 13 and younger and $10 for adults. Snowshoes are included for all participants, but hikers should dress in warm layers with appropriate footwear.<\/p>\n
