Swift Communications announced Monday it has reached an agreement to sell the Greeley Tribune to MediaNews Group (MNG), the owner and operator of one of the largest newspaper businesses in the U.S.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this
\nchange, the Greeley Tribune, its staff and the community will benefit from the
\nmany resources that MNG has in the region, as well as benefiting the long term
\ninterests of both companies,\u201d said Bill Waters, Chairman and CEO, Swift
\nCommunications, Inc.<\/p>\n
The sale will
\ntake effect March 1 at 12:01 p.m.<\/p>\n

\nPresident of Prairie Mountain Media. \u201cOur goals are simple: to run sustainable
\nnewspapers so they will be around to serve their local communities well into
\nthe future.\u201d<\/p>\n
MNG is one of
\nthe largest owners and operators of newspapers in the United States by
\ncirculation, with approximately 200 publications including The Denver Post, the
\nLoveland Reporter-Herald, the Longmont Times-Call, and the Boulder Daily
\nCamera.<\/p>\n
The sale does
\nnot include The Fence Post Company, which is an independent Swift
\nCommunications company that includes The Fence Post weekly agriculture
\nnewspaper based in Greeley, the Tri-State Livestock News weekly newspaper and
\nFarmer-Rancher Exchange based in South Dakota, Acres USA, a magazine, event and
\nbook publishing company based in Greeley, and Countryside Publications with
\noffices in Medford, Wisc.<\/p>\n
Swift
\nCommunications\u2019 Colorado newspapers include The Summit Daily News in Frisco,
\nThe Vail Daily in Vail, The Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today in Steamboat,
\nThe Aspen Times, The Glenwood Springs Post Independent and the Sky-Hi News in
\nGranby. Swift also operates newspapers in Park City, Utah, and in Grass
\nValley, Calif. as well as commercial print operations in Gypsum, Colo. and
\nCarson City, Nev.<\/p>\n
