Jumping for joy: 39th Demon Invitational gets underway

The 39th annual Glenwood Springs Demon Invitational kicked off Friday afternoon at Stubler Memorial Field with the boys and girls pole vaults on sunny day.

This year, the Glenwood boys look to win the fifth straight Demon Invitational, while the girls are looking for a second straight home invite win under long-time head coach Blake Risner.

Saturday will be the official start of running and field events, aside from pole vault, for the 39th Demon Invitational. Twenty teams, including Glenwood, will compete in the day-long invitational. Aside from Glenwood, local teams include Basalt, Coal Ridge, Grand Valley and Rifle, as well as Paonia, Meeker, DeBeque, Steamboat Springs, Aspen, North Park, Soroco, Eagle Valley, Cedaredge, Buena Vista, Vail Christian, Caprock Academy, West Grand, and Plateau Valley.

The invitational starts at 9 a.m. with the 800m Medley Relays, and the Girls Shot Put. A 30-45 minute lunch break will start at noon, before the second half of the day resumes at 12:45 with the Girls 100m high hurdle finals, and Boys Shot Put. Cost of admission for the invitational is $5 for adults, and $4 for students.
