{"id":1380621,"date":"2018-12-04T09:56:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-04T16:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kkch\/local-news\/mikaela-shiffrin-elated-thoughtful-following-historic-super-g-win-3\/"},"modified":"2018-12-04T09:56:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T16:56:00","slug":"mikaela-shiffrin-elated-thoughtful-following-historic-super-g-win-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kkch\/local-news\/mikaela-shiffrin-elated-thoughtful-following-historic-super-g-win-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Mikaela Shiffrin elated, thoughtful following historic super-G win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/sports\/mikaela-shiffrin-elated-thoughtful-following-historic-super-g-win\/\">John LaConte<\/a><\/span>  EAGLE-VAIL \u2014 When local ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin was growing up, she dreamed of winning every discipline in ski racing.<br \/>\nAfter accomplishing that goal with a super-G win on Sunday, Shiffrin posted her thoughts on Monday, Dec. 3.<br \/>\n&#8220;I definitely didn&#8217;t expect for it to happen this quickly,&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;For that to happen at this point in my career, I&#8217;m really over the moon about it.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe race itself was a near perfect effort which put Shiffrin almost 8-tenths of a second ahead of the second place finisher.<br \/>\nNevertheless, the 23-year-old had a moment of doubt in the finish area.<br \/>\n&#8220;It took me a minute to actually find the scoreboard, when I saw it \u2026 I thought it said 8-tenths behind,&#8221; Shiffrin said in a recorded statement sent to reporters. &#8220;And I was thinking &#8216;Oh shoot somebody else must have really crushed it.'&#8221;<br \/>\nThe feeling only lasted a moment.<br \/>\n&#8220;Then I saw that I was actually 8-tenths ahead \u2026 and I was thinking through my run I was like &#8216;Well, I really went for it. I really, really took the aggressive line and just barely pulled it off, and felt really good about it,'&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;WINGING IT&#8217;<br \/>\nThe aggressive line is what it takes to win in speed races such as super-G, a mix of downhill and giant slalom with a course set that skiers are permitted to see, but not ski, prior to the one run they are allowed.
