{"id":1382768,"date":"2018-12-20T08:01:51","date_gmt":"2018-12-20T15:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=958756"},"modified":"2018-12-20T08:01:51","modified_gmt":"2018-12-20T15:01:51","slug":"colorado-residents-now-can-change-birth-gender-identity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kkch\/local-news\/colorado-residents-now-can-change-birth-gender-identity\/","title":{"rendered":"Colorado residents now can change birth gender identity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER (AP) \u2014 Colorado residents now can change their gender identity on their birth certificate.<\/p>\n<p>KMGH-TV\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedenverchannel.com\/news\/local-news\/coloradans-can-now-change-their-gender-on-birth-certificate\">reports<\/a>\u00a0the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on Wednesday voted to simplify the process to change the gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>Under current requirements, a person must undergo gender reassignment surgery and prove it to a judge in order to qualify for the change to their birth certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Under new rules, those wishing to change their identity would simply need to fill out a form \u2014 no surgery required. Minors also will need a note from either a doctor or a mental health professional supporting the transition. Those who want to change their gender identity can only do so once without a court order.<\/p>\n<p>The board also voted to allow more identifying options for birth certificates.
