Carbondale Arts and Roaring Fork Beer Co. will present Carbondale’s inaugural lip sync battle at Batch, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
“I think it’s a great way for people to get together and be goofy and have fun,” Amy Kimberly, Carbondale Arts executive director, said.<\/p>\n
Kimberly says she got the idea from the long-standing lip-sync contest a local radio station in Telluride (KOTO) has done every year for 30 years.<\/p>\n
“We are certainly hoping to see it grow year after year,” Kimberly added.<\/p>\n
With 20 spots available for the event, Kimberly is signing people up until 7:15 p.m. Saturday night.<\/p>\n
There is no entry fee for the battle, and individuals as well as groups are accepted. <\/p>\n
“You can get up there on your own, or you can get a few friends together,” Kimberly said.<\/p>\n
Entrants must provide their song, along with props and costumes.<\/p>\n
“There are so many ways to go with lip sync, and the best part about it is you don’t have to be able to sing. You can be a rock-and-roll star,” Kimberly said.<\/p>\n
She added that lip sync can be a very creative process. While it might seem easy, it takes practice, she said.<\/p>\n
Organizers will have a panel of judges, who will pick the winner of the event.<\/p>\n
“The winner is going to walk with $200 in cash, so it’s well worth it to put a little effort in,” Kimberly added. “We highly recommend props and costumes.”<\/p>\n
Batch will also donate 10 percent of its sales for the night to Carbondale Arts.<\/p>\n
