It is not climate change that will call the end to humanity. It is the change in pH of the ocean. Start getting a better understanding of that and you will call to arms on \u201cRefuse, Reduce, Recycle, and Composting.\u201d<\/p>\n
Glenwood Springs will possibly make the same mistake that Carbondale just made by creating a monopoly in the trash service. It is a complex problem and could be addressed by collaboration among companies. <\/p>\n
Even if you do what Carbondale just did, we have three things that need to happen. Garbage, recycle and compost \u2014 it takes three trucks. I am highly opposed to putting local companies with huge investment out of business and inserting multinationals. Carbondale should negotiate new terms since that was Waste Management\u2019s direction from the beginning, and not disclosed.<\/p>\n
I worked on this problem extensively for my run for council. I would love to see the Post Independent do a study of what the New York Times has found happening around the country with the single-hauler failures. Talk to local haulers affected. <\/p>\n
Creating monopolies raises prices, and puts pressure on city governments to pick up tabs they didn\u2019t see coming.<\/p>\n
