Vail Fire crews quickly put out structure fire

At 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, crews from Vail Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of smoke in a structure on Vail Valley Drive. The fire was reported by a passerby who called 911.

Upon arrival, the crews could see significant smoke coming from the roof.

The fire was in a residential duplex with one side of the duplex under construction at the time of the incident. The fire was burning inside a wall separating the east and west units and extended from the first floor to the third floor.

Crews from Vail Fire and Emergency Services and Eagle River Fire Protection District were able to extinguish the fire and spent several hours removing drywall to ensure the fire was out. No injuries were reported and the duplex was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Two people working onsite during the start of the fire were uninjured during the incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation. A rapid and extensive response from firefighters is credited with keeping the fire contained to the separation wall and preventing total loss of the structure.

Vail Fire and Emergency Services received assistance from the Eagle River Fire Protection District, Eagle County Paramedic Services, Vail Public Safety Communications Center, Vail Police Department and Summit Fire and EMS.
