On the same night Miley Cyrus<\/a> released her new cover of John Lennon\u2019s \u201cHappy Xmas (War Is Over),\u201d<\/a> the singer dropped by The Tonight Show<\/a><\/em> to play the \u201cName That Song Challenge\u201d with Jimmy Fallon. In the game, Tonight Show<\/em> house band the Roots played a popular song one instrument at a time, with Fallon and Cyrus buzzing in to guess the track.<\/p>\n

The late-night host staked an early lead thanks to his ability to identify Joan Jett\u2019s \u201cI Love Rock N\u2019 Roll\u201d and Bob Marley\u2019s \u201cCould You Be Loved,\u201d but Cyrus staged a comeback thanks to songs like Carly Rae Jepsen\u2019s \u201cCall Me Maybe,\u201d her godmother Dolly Parton\u2019s \u201c9 to 5\u201d and her own \u201cParty in the U.S.A.\u201d However, Fallon picked up the game\u2019s final challenge, Biz Markie\u2019s \u201cJust a Friend,\u201d which turned into an all-audience sing-along.<\/p>\n

On Thursday night, Cyrus shared her rendition of the Plastic Ono Band\u2019s 1971 single, which she recorded alongside producer Mark Ronson and Lennon\u2019s son Sean Ono Lennon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe went to Electric Lady with Sean Ono Lennon and we got to cut \u2018War is Over,\u2019\u201d Cyrus told Fallon. \u201cAnd so we\u2019re also doing it on\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 we want to do a Christmas song, and I don\u2019t think anything could speak louder than what\u2019s going on right now than about \u2018War is Over.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Cyrus will perform both her Lennon cover and her new single \u201cNothing Breaks Like a Heart<\/a>\u201d while serving as musical guest on this weekend\u2019s Saturday Night Live<\/em>.<\/p>\n
