In a new interview with SiriusXM\u2019s Eddie Trunk, Rush<\/a>\u2019s Geddy Lee<\/a> revealed that not only is drummer Neil Peart<\/a> done playing with Rush, but he\u2019s done playing period.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeil is retired,\u201d he said. \u201cHe hasn\u2019t just retired from Rush; he\u2019s retired from drumming. He\u2019s not drumming anymore, and he\u2019s living his life. Which is fine \u2014 Alex [Lifeson] and I are cool with it. We\u2019re all still total pals. In fact, Alex and I were there just a few weeks ago visiting him, and we stay in touch. And, of course, Alex lives very near to me, so we\u2019re constantly going out to dinner, \u2019cause he loves to drink everything in my wine cellar. We\u2019re still pals, and we all talk, but that period of our life is done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rush have been completely inactive since the conclusion of their R40 Live<\/em> tour in 2015. The band\u2019s 2016 documentary Time Stand Still<\/em><\/a>\u00a0revealed that Peart was battling enormous physical pain through much of the tour, including a foot infection that made it agonizing for him to even walk. \u201cNeil was struggling throughout that tour to play at his peak, because of physical ailments and other things that were going on with him,\u201d Lee told Trunk. \u201cAnd he is a perfectionist, and he did not want to go out and do anything less than what people expected of him. That\u2019s what drove him his whole career, and that\u2019s the way he wanted to go out, and I totally respect that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee has focused much of his attention on writing his new book Geddy Lee\u2019s Big Beautiful Book Of Bass<\/em><\/a> since the tour concluded, but now that it\u2019s done he\u2019s beginning to think about creating new music. \u201cIs there more music to come from myself and from Alex?\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know when and what shape that will take. I don\u2019t know if Alex and I will do something together. People keep me asking me and they want me to be definitive, and I can\u2019t be, because I really haven\u2019t thought that far.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s Ryan Reed<\/a> in October, Lee indicated that creating music with Lifeson using a name other than Rush was a possibility. \u201cI would say there\u2019s no chance of seeing Rush on tour again as Alex, Geddy, Neil,\u201d he said. \u201cBut would you see one of us or two of us or three of us? That\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
