So it was extra surprising in Hamburg, Germany on September 9th, 2017 when they broke out 1965\u2019s haunting \u201cPlay With Fire\u201d for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/see-rolling-stones-dust-off-dancing-with-mr-d-play-with-fire-at-tour-opener-253275\/\">the first time in nearly 30 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The song, originally released as a B-side to \u201cThe Last Time,\u201d is a classic, the story of a young high-society woman and her mother who\u2019s \u201can heiress, owns a block in Saint John\u2019s Wood.\u201d It\u2019s full of mystery, with some wondering if it\u2019s about Jagger having a three-way relationship with the mother and daughter. \u201cAh, the imagination of teenager!\u201d Jagger said when asked that question in 1968, according to 2016\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Rolling Stones All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Track.<\/em> It was\u00a0cut in the early hours one January night \u00a0after an all-night session in which the band recorded \u201cThe Last Time.\u201d Jagger and Keith Richards are the only two Stones on the track \u2013 Jack Nietzsche played harpsichord and Phil Spector played electric guitar. \u201c\u2019Play with Fire\u2019 sounds amazing,\u201d Mick Jagger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/mick-jagger-remembers-92946\">told <em>RS<\/em> in 1995<\/a>. \u201dIt\u2019s a very in-your-face kind of sound and very clearly done. You can hear all the vocal stuff on it. And I\u2019m playing the tambourines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jagger had apparently forgotten how amazing the song sounded by the time of the No Filter tour. In an interview for his art book <em>Set Pieces: The Rolling Stones Set Lists<\/em>, Ronnie Wood told us that he had to personally request they add it in for the first time since the Steel Wheels tour. \u201cI think I may have suggested it to Mick \u2013 he didn\u2019t realize what a great song it was,\u201d Wood said. \u201cAnd I think he went away and thought about it and it just suddenly appeared at rehearsal. Keith and I were both playing acoustics.
