Kelly<\/a> of sexual, mental and physical abuse speak to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> about finding resiliency through community and how the music industry overlooks predatory behavior. The clip debuts one day before Thursday\u2019s premiere of Lifetime docuseries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/surviving-r-kelly-clip-771132\/\"><em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t go away\u00a0\u2013\u00a0you always live with it because it\u2019s the person that you see on TV,\u201d says Lizzette Martinez, detailing the effects of the alleged abuse. \u201cYou hear the music, so getting over it doesn\u2019t really happen. You just live with it \u2026 I was 17. I was a child. He took away my innocence. He took my off the path that I was on. He changed my life forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asante McGee describes a duality between Kelly\u2019s charismatic stage persona and his allegedly dark personal life. (The singer has faced numerous lawsuits and claims \u2013\u00a0including allegations of holding women in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/two-more-r-kelly-accusers-step-forward-629029\/\"><strong>sex cult<\/strong><\/a>.) \u201cR. Kelly is this loving, fun guy that everybody sees, but Robert \u2013 he\u2019s the devil,\u201d she says. \u201cYou pretty much had to have permission to do whatever, from eating to bathing.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Drea Kelly, who was in a relationship with the musician for nearly 13 years \u2013 including almost 10 years of marriage \u2013\u00a0praised her children with giving her the courage to move forward. \u201cThey\u2019re my biggest supporters,\u201d she says. \u201cThey\u2019re the ones who tell me, \u2018Mom, you gotta get out of bed today.\u2019 They\u2019re the ones who tell me, \u2018Mom, tell your story because you\u2019re going to save someone\u2019s life.\u2019 This is going to crush their world because they have to come to the reality that this monster they describe is also [their] father. But my kids also told me, \u2018But mom, the hero everybody sees is our mom.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The six-hour <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em> will include over 50 interviews, including appearances from John Legend, R&amp;B artist Sparkle, talk show host Wendy Williams and civil rights activist Tarana Burke.
