Kelly<\/a> in the final episode of the Lifetime docuseries <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As both the rapper and the R&amp;B singer are musical icons in their native Chicago, their paths have crossed on numerous occasions: During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chance-the-rapper\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chance-the-rapper\" data-tag=\"chance-the-rapper\">Chance the Rapper<\/a>\u2019s Lollapalooza set in 2014, held in the Windy City, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bDwr0iUGnLo\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">brought out Kelly as a surprise guest<\/a>. \u201cMake some noise for the Pied Piper of R&amp;B,\u201d he told the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>The following year, Chance the Rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/watch-r-kelly-host-mansion-blowout-with-snoop-in-backyard-party-video-178935\/\">made a cameo in Kelly\u2019s \u201cBackyard Party\u201d video<\/a> and collaborated with the singer on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qs-L048YlJk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Somewhere in Paradise<\/a>.\u201d However, in an interview that features in <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em>, Chance said that in hindsight he regretted working with Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking a song with R. Kelly was a mistake. I didn\u2019t value the accusers\u2019 stories because they were black women,\u201d Chance the Rapper told <em>Cassius<\/em>\u2018 Jamilah Lemieux. \u201cI made a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear whether Chance\u2019s comments were recorded in accordance with <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em> or if it was unreleased footage from an unrelated interview.<\/p>\n<p>While artists in the hip-hop and R&amp;B community were reluctant to appear on camera for <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em>, the six-part docuseries credited Vince Staples for calling out Kelly as a \u201cchild molester\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L7jc9jVJ7dU\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a post-Coachella interview that went viral<\/a> and helped reopen the national conversation about Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>One notable artist who sat down for <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em> was John Legend, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/john-legend-r-kelly-surviving-774874\/\">who said of his appearance on the docuseries<\/a>, which concludes Saturday night with two final episodes, \u201cI believe these women and don\u2019t give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist.
