Sleater-Kinney<\/a> will release an as-yet-untitled follow-up to their reunion album, 2015\u2019s No Cities to Love<\/em>, sometime this year. St. Vincent<\/a> produced the album with the band. Both she and the trio announced the news via their social media accounts today with a photo of them all behind a mixing desk.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always planned on getting back in the studio \u2014 it was just a matter of when,\u201d guitarist Carrie Brownstein told NPR<\/a>. \u201cIf there is an overarching principle to this album, it\u2019s that the tools on which we were relying proved inadequate. So we sought new ones, both metaphorically and literally.\u201d<\/p>\n

St. Vincent, whose real name is Annie Clark, showed off her fandom for the group last year when she posted an Instagram of herself doing a \u201cpre-show Sleater-Kinney warm up,\u201d playing the band\u2019s \u201cModern Girl,\u201d off their LP The Woods<\/em>, and tagging Brownstein. Clark has also appeared in three episodes of Brownstein\u2019s Portlandia<\/em> and, as the AV Club<\/a> notes, worked with the guitarist on videos for the ramp-up<\/a> to 2017\u2019s Masseduction<\/em>. They also worked together on a tongue-in-cheek \u201cinterview kit\u201d<\/a> as part of the promotion. In 2014, St. Vincent said she had been working in the studio<\/a> with Brownstein, though nothing materialized.<\/p>\n

Brownstein told Billboard<\/em><\/a> last year that the group was taking things at their own pace while working on a follow-up to No Cities to Love<\/em>. \u201cNow, just so you know, we\u2019re going to do this very slowly,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s an ongoing conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n
