The indie-rock trio teased the album \u2013 which follows their acclaimed debut, 2014\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/rips-107369\/\"><em>Rips<\/em><\/a> \u2013 with its surging lead single, \u201cCosmic Cave.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">The group offer a psychedelic edge to the jangly power-pop track, pairing shimmering guitar riffs and hammering drums with wordless \u201cwhoa-oh\u201d vocals and blasts of vintage phaser. \u201cBaby, come on and dance with me,\u201d guitarist Mary Timony sings. \u201cCome out of your cave; let\u2019s ride on the waves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The band will promote <em>It\u2019s Real<\/em> with a 29-date North American tour launching April 2nd in Richmond, Virginia and wrapping May 10th in their native Washington D.C. After a break, they will launch a brief U.K. leg on May 24th in Leeds. Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, January 11th at 10 a.m. local time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Timony, a veteran of alt-rock\/post-punk acts Wild Flag and Helium, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/heliums-mary-timony-talks-two-decades-of-offbeat-indie-rock-excellence-195769\/\">spoke to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in 2017 about the challenges of writing in a more pop-oriented style.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI always kind of wanted to,\u201d she said. \u201cYou know, like most people do, I go through a lot of different phases \u2013 as in, what you\u2019re into and what influences you and stuff. And I think for the first time, I just wanted to try making music that I wanted. Just really trying to write pop songs more than I had ever done, just trying to see if I could do it, you know? It\u2019s really so much harder for me. Like, I\u2019m just not a natural pop person. It either happens or it doesn\u2019t. Most of the time it doesn\u2019t. Like, trying to force yourself to do a certain thing, because it\u2019s really hard creatively I think.
